Coq au Vin: HELP!!

another insipid coq au vin at La Mirabelle on w86th just west of Columbus. is there anyplace in manhattan that actually serves this deeply rich dish instead of the watered down versions found at everyplace i've tried (except see #1) ?

addendum:

#1. the best i EVER had was at Artisanal, which unfortunately was removed from the menu; however, Terry Brennan was gracious enough to respond to my email & offered to make the coq au vin, given several days notice. a very nice touch by Chef Brennan!

#2. as much as i want to "love" La Mirabelle, each time i have gone, the food is amazingly bland, & nothing stands out throughout the entire menu + the specials. the average age of its regulars appears to be ~70, maybe that's why so bland; however, the service is quite good, & pleasant. is there any hope for a real bistro on the UWS, & i don't mean the terrible café luxembourg, the faux nice matin, etc, etc.........

i don't usually follow up my post with another "my post"; however, it is quite disappointing to post a topic that asks for "audience" participation, & receive none! does not speak well for the success of this site, which, at the end-of-the-day, its success depends on its participants, aided by our host.

If you're poo-pooing Cafe Luxembourg and Nice Matin, you're obviously trafficking in the highest realms of Me-Want-UWS-Bistro-dom. I'm generally in agreement with you re: Nice Matin, which seems to be more pretender than a real, gutsy, downtowny bistro. I have to disagree, though, re: Luxembourg - I love the feel and food of the place. Have you tried Alouette on Broadway and the upper 90s? There's also Bistro du Monde around 104 and Broadway. Finally, there's a French place that shows potential from outside (haven't eaten there) that's just around the corner from the excellent Silver Moon Bakery (104 & Broadway) - the place starts with an "M", but I'm blanking on the rest. Basically, my advice is to go north. By the way, was your Spidey Sense off given your repeated forays to Cafe Mirabelle? That is the oddest place - and that's from a guy who's sole exposure to that tomb-in-training is walking the dog by it. The patronage is ancient, the waiters dress over-formally and take their nasty cigarette breaks right outside, and it replaced a far better joint, Pho Bang (Vietnamese). And Luxembourg doesn't meet your standards?

café "lux" is (& i'll try to be kind) incredibly overpriced for below average food & service. absentee owner who inherited it from the divorce, only drops by to pick up the cash from the suckers that eat there. i haven't read a good review about this place in yrs! so sorry if too harsh, but next time you go, open up your eyes, look around & observe why every respected critic & serious restaurant-goer thinks this place is living on its past rep. i know, i know, its crowded. well, no one ever went broke......

alouette? when the owners take the 2x4 out of their behinds, i'll return. also, for a "neighborhood" bistro, it pisses me off how exacting they measure out their "pours".

le monde? same crowd that owns nice matin, french roast, etc... sucks!
metisse? ok, nothing special. another french-themed, brazilian-owned place.
mirabelle? don't know why i go, maybe just hoping it will improve???
btw, anyplace that replaces a vietnamese has to be better!

baruch, Have you tried the coq au vin at Park Bistro?

yes, but not in a very long time so it would be unfair to comment

i have "heard" DeMarchelier on e86th just east of Madison has a very good version of Coq au Vin, but i have not yet tried - has anyone?
