Wondering if there are a few butchers (hopefully in manhattan) where I can find a truly great leg of lamb for an upcoming dinner party? Have tried freshdirect, but I haven't always been crazy about the meat quality...

i have bought good quailty legs at dean and deluca, also balduccis. never tried thier lamb, but there's always lobels'! i have had probmels with legs at wholefoods. they do not know how to trim it properly.

Go to the Union Square Greenmarket on Wednesday or Saturday and visit Karen Weinberg of "3 Corner Field Farm":http://dairysheepfarm.com/. Her lamb is absolutely delicious. So is the mutton, when it's available.
She also makes wonderful sheep's milk soap, excellent cheese, and the best yogurt ever.
