Food Network's New Wii Video Game

Food Network is releasing a new video game, Cook or Be Cooked, which will hit stores on November 3. With more than 30 recipes developed by the expert chefs of the Food Network Kitchens, the game delivers a truly authentic food experience from prep to plate. Throughout the game, players receive tips, feedback and reviews from Food Network's Vice President of Marketing and The Next Food Network Star judge, Susie Fogelson, and Food Network Kitchens chef Mory Thomas. Personally, my favorite video game cuisine is still the red-and-white-spotted mushroom power-ups in Mario Brothers. Watch a preview of the video game, after the jump....

Video: Cooking Mama 3 Trailer

Cooking Mama, everyone's favorite spatula-wielding virtual lady, is back with more. Cooking Mama 3 Shop & Chop for Nintendo DS is scheduled to hit stores in November. It will feature a new grocery shopping element since, you know, it was a little odd before how pixelated ramen would just appear in the kitchen. Now you can buy the ingredients first! Ah, much more rational. The new edition will feature 80 "fresh" recipes including Korean barbecue, mochi with edamame paste, and lemon pie. The trailer, after the jump....

Making A Mario Mushroom Out of A Radish

Photo from Anna the Red There's always seemed to be a lot of crossover between food-nerdism and gaming-nerdism. Case in point: This impressively accurate rendition of Toad from the Mario games, brought to you by Anna the Red's Bento Factory. Check out the step-by-step instructions on her site. (Next up: Bowser?)...

The Year That Was: Food Video Games

Continuing The Year That Was, with food-based pixelated distractions. Super Mario Bros. Cupcakes. Photograph from hello naomi on Flickr OMG. How many food video games came out this year? Major League Eating was announced in early March, teased us in April, still hadn't come out in May (when we sent Ben Brown to a press event in San Francisco and Gordon Mark to one in New York), and finally came out via WiiWare on July 14. MLE was perhaps the most inspired of this bunch of games, which also included Iron Chef America, Cake Mania, and Hell's Kitchen (which Gordon Mark, who sort of became our de facto in-house food-gamer, reviewed here—and a whole host of others we've probably overlooked....

'Cake Mania': This Game Bakes the Cake

Easy Bake Oven, KO! Last week Majesco released its third baking video game for the Nintendo Wii, Cake Mania: In the Mix! Whatever happened to little girls sitting around the kitchen table and making tiny, sugar filled cakes? True, this game leaves little mess, and it does sound like fun to be baker Jill Evans, creating cakes, balancing orders and people. Hmm, this game just might help little girls (and boys) develop some time management and organization skills, too. KFC Box Meal Makes for Unhealthy Guitar Heroes

KFC has come up with a box meal tie-in for the new Guitar Hero: World Tour video game. The KFC Fully Loaded Box Meal consists of two Original Recipe Strips, an Original Recipe Snacker, your choice of a drumstick or thigh, two sides, a biscuit, and a 32-ounce drink for $7.99. That's more than 1200 calories and about 60 grams of fat. Maybe it's just me but I don't see how one person alone can eat this like in the commercial and not feel nauseous or the need to go run a marathon. So I have to give props to the guys at gaming blog Kotaku for taste testing it. Overall they gave it a D-. Some specific ratings...
