Does anyone miss Escargot?

I yearn for the long lost days when restaurants served Escargot peeking out of their little shells inviting the challenge and theater of using that special little fork to remove and savor them (remember the scene in Pretty Woman?). With the return of true haute French cuisine I hope this classic will return. What long, lost traditions of fine dining do you most miss?

How do you celebrate your birthday?

My birthday is next week (29), and I can't decide what to do for it, but I want to do something fun because my last birthday was really depressing. Do you have food-related birthday traditions? Do you go out to dinner? Do you make yourself a cake? Do you go on a pub crawl? Do your loved ones bring you breakfast in bed? Or do you lie in bed and eat chocolates and pretend the whole thing isn't happening?
Give me inspiration!

What holiday traditions are still going strong in your family?

It is said that friends are "the family we get to choose". Every year, I invite friends to my an annual Halloween popcorn ball making party which will be this weekend. The second weekend in Dec is set aside for baking cookies & candy making with grandkids. Our family Christmas meal is always a brunch after gifts are opened. What food related holiday traditions do you share with friends & family?

Food Traditions

My mother in law has been very ill, so I've been very reflective. She wasn't a great cook, but she had a few classics that I know must survive her, so her legacy lives on. I have obtained her recipe box filled with yellowing cards, so I can teach these classics to my family. Do you have family classics that you feel must live on thru the generations?
