Sushi in Alabama

My boyfriend and I will be staying in the college town of Tuscaloosa, AL for about a week this July. He's NEVER had sushi and seems genuinely afraid of my assertions that I will MAKE him eat sushi. We've decided that our trip is just as good a time as any for him to wake up and eat that delicious thing called raw fish. The problem is that I've gone to some pretty crappy sushi places. Even here in Los Angeles you can pay a pretty penny for less than stellar Japanese food. Does anyone know of a sushi place in Bama that serves quality sushi for a reasonable price? I'd hate it if he disliked the stuff just because his first experience with it was bad.

Best sushi in Chicago

The Husband and I are heading to Chicago for a wedding. I would like to go out for sushi while we are there. What are some great sushi restaurants - from cheap to expensive?

Calling All At-Home Sushi Experts...

Please tell me where and what you buy to make your sushi at home, and share your secret tricks. Fresh fish? Nori? Good crab stick? Rice tricks? Rolling technique? Special rolls? Veggie rolls?

My only attempt involved cheap ingredients that produced edible, nicely-rolled maki, but certainly not something I'd serve to guests, or even bother making again instead of ordering out. The nori was too chewy and salty, the crab stick was funky, and I had trouble perfecting the rice without a rice cooker.

Sushi - in Manhattan

I'm coming to Manhattan this week and have reservations at Nobu, however I've seen very mixed reviews of Nobu.

So, I am looking for alternative restaurants for Sushi

Japanese restaurant that serves katsudon in Boston?

Where can I find a Japanese restaurant that serves katsudon in Boston? There seems to be no shortage of sushi places, but Google has failed me when it comes to fried pork cutlet over rice.

Soto Sushi

There has been talk on Ed Levine Eats prompted by a negative comment elsewhere. Serious Eaters who can afford it should flock to this restaurant as soon as they can. The first time I went alone and had an assortment of nigiri sushi for a bit over $50 that was absolutely superb. So I went back with my wife and we tried the omakase. I have been to Japan many times, eaten sushi there frequently both as host and guest. I have eaten at many of the places in NY and LA that people who know sushi regard as excellent. I can say without reservation that Soto-san served us a meal that has not been bettered in my experience (who knows which is the "BEST"?). The meal cost $220 for two with a generous tip and no alcohol (although with a bottle of—God help us—Norwegian water). The restaurant is elegant and the service very attentive. I don't know of any upscale restaurant in New York that would give more overall satisfaction (of whatever kind of cuisine it serves) for less money. Get there while you can and try to reserve two places in front of or what appeared to be even more interesting, in the two places beside, Soto-san, so you can see him work.

Fun, yummy, sushi place in NYC

Best sushi in Northern Jersey?

For those who live in the now cold Northern New Jersey area, what is your favorite sushi place to dine at?

I'm going to share my secret location because I enjoy this website so much. The restaurant is called Nori and it's located at 406 Bloomfield Ave,Caldwell, NJ 07006. If you search for it, don't be confused by some other alike names in close towns. Out of the many places to eat sushi in NJ, I've found this to be the best. It's very small, quiet and well lit, unlike large lounge type atomspheres. It's also a byob place.

PS - Don't be afriad to try the "caribbean roll," it's excellent.

Recommendations for sushi in Brooklyn

Having only recently moved to Brooklyn, I only really know Osaka.

Other recommendations?

I hear good things about Ki Sushi and read wildly mixed reviews about Dish in Bay Ridge? What's up with that? Is Dish good or no?
