The Best Supermarket Holiday Ham

Is there a delicious ham widely available for the masses (me)? What do you think of spiral sliced? Water added? Country ham? Smoked? How is it best baked (not microwaved - hoo boy!) and what is your favorite glaze?
In other words, which would you buy and how would you prepare it?

Confessions of a check-out lane lookey-loo...

So, yesterday I went to the supermarket. As usual, I found myself scrutinizing the contents of others' baskets. I know it's nosy but I just can't help myself. Standing in line is boring. I've always been too curious for my own good, and people-watching is a borderline compulsion of mine (groceries say such interesting things about the people who are buying them). I know it's none of my business, but sometimes I want to shake somebody and ask them what on earth they think they're doing. Other times I want to pull aside a young mom down and teach her what she should have learned from her own mother. Sometimes I'm simply amused (usually when I look at my own purchases). And, once in a great while, I'm actually impressed.

Am I the only one? Are you a lane lookey-loo? Come on... confession is good for the soul...

T & T Supermarket Chain

My aunt has recently suggested an outing to the Canadian supermarket chain, T&T. I'd never heard of it. Has anyone here gone? Is it worth the trip?

What do you look for in your SUPERmarket?

The posts yesterday about the Food Network awards mentioned Wegman's being named the best supermarket. Fortunately for me, that is one of our local markets....originating just a few miles down the thruway in Rochester, NY.
Last Friday night I decided to grab some chinese from their buffet before I did my shopping, and sat down in their Market Cafe to enjoy dinner. Imagine my surprise when a group of young musicians came in, set up & began playing some very enjoyable jazz music. They have jazz in the cafe every Friday evening for 2 hrs. That bumped Wegmans up in book, for not only their great produces & grocery products...but the atmosphere in their cafe area. How important is something like that in your book for your shopping experience?
What do you look for in your favorite grocery store?

Processed versus "The real deal " what's your choice ??

Is paying the extra price really worth what you get ??

Do you prefer supermarkets for their prices and convenience or small specialist local shops for their freshness and the knowledge of knowing where the produce comes from ??

what's your choice ??

tell me ... I think quality , freshness and assurance are really important ... but what do you think ??
