Henry's End

Henry's End....my friend, Alison, says that it's the Bklyn Heights neighborhood place you take your parents. Well, I've taken them and haven't been back since. I recall it's a bit more expensive than others around here, but it's not the money. The food is good. I just hate the atmosphere. It's too crowded and the ceiling vent is falling apart in the back. They do have a really kooky waitress - can't remember her name, but everyone knows her - she's amusing (once). If you advise your birth date, you get a free entree once a year - they even send a postcard to remind you.

Siggy's

Siggy's - also Henry St. in BH. Organic - super yum health food. I wish I could cook like this. They have everything from delicious fresh juice - my fav is the Flu Defense - to an awesome lentil soup that she makes everyday and beyond. The juice is the elixir of life if you aren't feeling well, by the way. You just need to be sure that the guy who works in the am puts in all the ingredients - my only complaint thus far with this place - he was about the give me kale, celery and orange juice for $6.75....I needed that lemon and ginger and echinacea. Anyway, it's the kind of place that, in the unusual event you get the wrong order delivered, you are still happy.

Clark's Restaurant

Clark's Restaurant, Henry St., Brooklyn Heights - my favorite local diner. The coffee is crappy, but the eggs are good. I live down the street and I even order in from there - it's embarassing to be that lazy...but it's true. Oh, and I'm not the only one - the place is mobbed on the weekends. They aren't even open all the time - they must be doing something right to have enough business to keep the hours they keep.

Henry St. Ale House

Henry St. Ale House - they renovated, and I'm not sure what that means for the food. Previously, not a place I'd consider for eating....

Mister Softee trucks

I got off the subway on my way home last night and saw a gaggle of Mister Softee trucks gassing up. This photo shows only three, but there were three more out of the frame to the right and two more waiting to enter the station's lot. There's a parking lot where a good number of them sleep for the night just down Union Street from this Hess station here in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn. You sorta forget that these trucks do more than idle on a street corner all day. And even though it annoyed me at the time, I gotta admit, I sorta miss that jingle they used to play.

Yuck.

Way too much meat. A completely pointless endeavour and lifeless outing. This gets my worst rating ever: 7 thumbs up.

Fricano's Pizza Tavern in Grand Haven, Michigan

I recently moved from the midwest to Portland, Oregon, and I'm reading "A Slice of Heaven" right now. I would love for Ed Levine or one of you to check out Fricano's Pizza Tavern in Grand Haven, Michigan. It may be the perfect taven pizza. And for those of you that think of Michigan as fly-over territory, Grand Haven is actually a pretty nice place to rent a place on the lake.

Was at *Goodburger* for lunch today

Was at *Goodburger* for lunch today (Second Avenue and 45th Street, NYC) and saw they now have online ordering. The interface is a little clunky right now -- they should offer combo meals as a _one-click_ option instead of making you select burger, fries, drink separately -- but it might beat standing in the long lines during the lunchtime rush.

I recently went to Una Pizza Napoletana, which produces my favorite pizza anywhere. Maybe you can describe the beauty of Anthony Mangieri's pizza better than I but I am always totally blown away by how each high quality ingredient he uses works together in harmony as opposed to being distinctly separate entities so often found in other places.
This guy is a master!!
However, the last time I was there, I was served up a heavily charred pie. Because his bread is so absolutely amazing, I didn't even notice this flaw. It did bother my dining companion a bit, though.
Ed, what's your take on this? Is heavy charring like this a fairly normal occurrence for traditional Neapolitan pizza or did Mangieri just let one get away from him?

Thanks.
