Grilled/fire-roasted nuts
I picked up a package of fire-roasted cashews at my local grocery. Pretty tasty. Has anyone ever grilled/fire-roasted nuts? Seems like it would be an easy thing to do. Or is it more complicated than I am thinking?
Awww... Nuts!
We really love all nuts and they are so good for you. I make nutty granola, snack and trail mixes, spicy and savory roasted nuts. We embellish salads, pastas and grain dishes, and certainly try to add them to many types of baked goods. I've made pesto using almonds, cashews, macadamias and walnuts, as well as the traditional pine nuts. I have thought about making my own nut butters, but haven't attempted to as yet.
Any suggestions for new nut treatments? Recipes for any favorite dishes featuring nuts? We are not vegetarians, however normally go meat-free a day or two a week. I'd appreciate any of your special recs for this great protein source. Thanks!
Would rather give up nuts or chips?
I'll define nuts as all tree nuts plus peanuts. Chips...meaning potato, corn and tortilla. Yes, both are serious snack foods! Nuts are actually an ingredient in a heck of alot more recipes but chips are a natural with sandwiches & dips. This is not a tough decision for me...I'll remain nutty all the way!
Mixed nuts...
A big bowl of mixed nuts is sitting in front of you. You are only allowed to eat one nut. Which one would you choose?
(This nightmarish scenario popped into my head when I grabbed a small handful of mixed nuts at 3:30 p.m. to hold me to dinner, having forgotten to eat the first bite of a single thing today. I adore nuts. I can't remember a single type I haven't loved. But, I'm thinking I'd pick a cashew. Then again, I might just slit my wrists instead.)

I' ve just started realizing how many nuts I eat everyday. I put walnuts, almonds, pecans or pinenuts on salads. Sometimes there are nuts in my bread, or cereal, my cookies, cakes, brownies, pasta, veggies, etc. I guess I'm nuts for nuts! How about you? How do you eat them? Any novel uses or types?

Just love the crunch & flavor of all kinds of nuts. I add them to both sweet & savory recipes. Anyone else nutty over nuts?
Remember the Nut Lady?
One great thing about watching Johnny Carson: The food collectors. I have such fond memories of the Potato Chip Lady and the Nut Lady.
I got to thinking of "Nut Lady" Elizabeth Tashjian after reading a comic strip (Zippy the Pinhead) this morning. Did a bit of research, and I'm sorry to report that the founder of the Nut Museum in Old Lyme, CT died just this past January.
But you can still listen to Ms. Tashjian's rendition of her song, "Nuts Are Beautiful"
