The first time I tasted ____ it was so vile I spit it out

I have two and both of them originated from the same animal: goat. I tried goat cheese at a trade show a few years ago and couldn't wait for a sample of something - anything - that would get that horrid taste out of my mouth. Fast forward to this past weekend. I went to my local dollar store hoping they'd have some caramel ice cream topping for my son's birthday cheesecake. They didn't, but they had Mexican caramel sauce made with goat milk. Long story short, I tasted a tiny bit and wanted to die. I rinsed my mouth out with hot water and brushed my teeth as soon as I was sure I wasn't going to vomit. Then I made the 10 minute drive to the nearest grocery (which I REALLY should have done in the first place) and bought what I needed.

So what your worst taste scenarios? Are you willing to try it again to see if your tastes have changed? I've sworn off anything goat-related!

Strange food names

I was just curious to know if anyone had ever been unable to eat a food, or had been really hesitant to try a food, based upon its name, either the real one, or the local name for it. Or perhaps, it was a name that was so funny that it was hard to think of it as food.

When I first moved over to Ireland I got a real shock when I saw "Donnor" kabobs offered in some of the local kebab shops. Not that there is anything abnormal about them, but that, coming from having been raised in the US and taught all about the infamous "Donnor Party", my first instincts were that the kebabs were the remnants of customers past. Although I have since grown to really enjoy them once in a while, I have to admit that the name really put me off them initially.

Any else have that problem?

I Hate Chocolate -- Anyone Else?

I never have liked chocolate. The darker the chocolate the more I dislike it. Needless to say, finding desserts I like is more difficult than I like since I have a crazy sweet tooth. However, I do admit I enjoy white chocolate...to a point.

I know I can't be the only person on Serious Eats who just can't seem to understand people's intense love for chocolate....

THIS will never touch my lips again!!!

white chocolate
white jelly beans
haggis
blood pudding
mutton
sweet wine
olive loaf
wonder bread
fake foods
snack cakes

i should stop now and give you a turn.

I'd rather not eat soggy _____

No soggy cold cereal for me---I will put a small amount of Kashi GoLean Crunch or Cinnamon Wheat Promise in bowl with just enough milk to moisten, eat & repeat process until full. I cringe when my breadstuff may have untentionally soaked up juices from an entree or vegetable--now if I want to dunk my bread or biscuit, that's intirely different! On the flipside, I like shortcake biscuits that have juicy strawberries on top & then pour cream around the sides so it's pretty mushy but eaten quickly while still warm. Also like to dunk gingersnaps in milk until soaked. When do you say "no thanks, I'm not eating soggy ____"?
