Mother's Day Menu

About twelve of us are gathering for a mother's day dinner next Sunday evening. We need suggestions for an easy menu.

Help me with my weekday dinners

I'm really into cooking, but for the most part I only cook and eat one major meal a day: dinner. Lately I've been getting very bored with my nightly dinners. I feel like I'm eating the same things over and over again.. The meals that are normal at my house include roasted potatoes with a pan seared meat, lots of pasta dishes- especially lasagna, chicken adobo, chilie, stir fry. They are by no means "boring" dishes, but I'm getting sick of eating them. What are normal nightly dinners at your homes? What dishes do you make often? I'm looking to switch things up and I want ideas from other people who love to cook.

Dressing Up Baked Beans

As a quick dinner, I often open a can of Heinz baked beans, and eat it over a fried egg. When I'm making shepherd's pie, I add the beans to replace some of the ground meat. Are there are other ways to pimp the beans, or use it in a recipe?

NYC Restaurant Recommendations?

I haven't really explored NYC before, and I'm heading over there to meet up with my boyfriend at Grand Central this coming weekend. We're total foodies, so we're looking forward to two great lunches and an even awesomer dinner, but we don't know where! We pretty much decided the first lunch would be a nice trad'l Jewish delicatessen, Katz's (from this website's great recommendation), but other than that, we're not sure. Help?

Informal/casual lunches (if you have a better deli to suggest, please don't hesitate, Katz's isn't set in stone), and nothing more expensive than $70/person for the dinner (sorry Le Bernardin!). We are definite meat-eaters, and every type of cuisine is pretty much up for grabs, although we do like to be adventurous, so I guess Italian and American foods are out. I'd love to hear your suggestions and why! Thanks everyone!

Making a great dinner for that special boy.

I am suffering brain-freeze. I am clearly suffering cooker's block.

Spectacular new sweetie is coming for dinner tomorrow night. I want to blow him away, while at the same time appearing like "Oh, you mean this old thing?" The food shouldn't be fussy or have things like capers floating around in it (he is not a man who wishes to find such things in his food), but should have a serious Wow factor. He doesn't appear to be fond of organ meats or fishy fish, and in our dinners out, has shown every sign of being a full omnivore.

Any ideas?

If you were dinner for today and tomorrow, what would you be?

I need inspired for dinner today and tomorrow before I walk mindlessly through the grocery store, spending money on needless items.

My MIL gave me Easter this year! Help!

To make up for taking Thanksgiving from me last year, my MIL gave me Easter this year. I've never cooked Easter dinner before. My in-laws always have baked ham, which I'm a little sick of. I'd like to do lamb, but my husband (=slightly picky eater) isn't sure he'll like it. I offered to do a test run first & if he hates it, then I have time to come up with something else (like ham). I was thinking of roasting the lamb with roasted new potatoes, but I'm not sure what else to serve. Any ideas?

Vegetarian in the East Village

I'm looking for restaurant recomendations in the East village/ lower manhattan area that are vegetarian or have a good selection of vegetarian options for a birthday dinner, something festive with good food, it doesn't have to be overly fancy. Any suggestions?

Most Romantic Valentine's Dinner?

If I had to elect one Valentine's Dinner as Most Fab - it would be the year I prepared beautiful Filets Mignon with port sauce and mushrooms, potato gratin for the side. Also a raspberry marzipan cake for dessert. Naturally, champagne was served.

Memorable Love-Day Feasts? Either prepared or served at restaurants. Dessert-Only courses may certainly apply ;)

Dinner party on a budget, no dishwasher. Can it be done?

Hi all -- New here and de-lurking to seek advice - I'm having 5 people over for dinner Sat night and need ideas on how to do a great and even somewhat semi-impressive menu on a budget in a tiny dishwasher-free apartment. Since this is my first time entertaining in this space, I'd be grateful for any advice, do's / don'ts, war stories, etc. Thanks

What’s your favorite quick fix dinner?

It’s been a long day, work has totally kicked your butt, you are cranky and hungry and tired. What do you throw together for dinner? What is easy and delicious and requires practically no effort on your part? And most importantly - makes you feel all better?

For me, on days like that, my standard go-to meal is cannellini beans mixed with minced sweet onion, minced garlic and Italian parsley, tossed with S & P, olive oil and lemon juice. It takes 5 minutes, start to finish, is tasty, and really does make me feel all better.

very easy recipe for dinner party for six?

We're having four friends for dinner on Saturday (they are all psychiatrists), and I need a festive but easy dish to make. Any suggestions?
