I need a recipe for cookies
Does anyone have a good and easy cookie recipe?
Success with Meringue!
i made my Mom's Meringue cookies for the first time last night, and would you believe it, they were a success!
but i think i got lucky. however, i've also been told there are certain things you should never do when making a meringue. Such as use a metal bowl, or metal utensils. I used a glass bowl, but my hand mixer has metal attachments. and then i used a plastic spoon to make the drop cookies.
Metal bowl not OK? plastic bowls not OK? metal mixer OK? plastic spatula/other utensils OK for meringues? What else should I know for next time?
I add _____ to my oatmeal cookies
Coming up on March 18th is National Oatmeal Cookie Day--yay! What are your favorite add-ins? Dried fruits like dates (my favorite), apricots, dried cherries or big soft raisins? Nuts...maybe walnuts, pecans & I've eaten ones with pistachio nuts, too. Coconut? Spices? Chocolate chunks? Do you have a passed thru generations killer oatmeal cookie recipe or just use the one on the back of the Quaker box?
Does anybody have this recipe?
A few months ago, somebody gave me the Cooks Illustrated recipe for Chocolate-Chunk Oatmeal Cookies with Dried Cherries. I can't figure out what I did with it and I really wanted to bake up a batch -- they were so good!
If anybody has it, I'd be so happy if you'd either post it or email it to me at Lo dot Co at cox dot net.
Thanks!
Black and White Cookies
I'm getting married in a month and would like to have homemade cookies as a favor. I was hoping to make mini black and whites as an homage to my home sweet home, as I now live in the south. Does anyone know a good recipe? There are several floating around the intersphere, so if you have the inside poop on a recipe I'd love to know. If you have any other great wedding favor recipes, I'd love them too!!
Would you rather give up ice cream or cookies?
Tough decision! I do love a bowl of Haagen Dazs...but to never have a warm chocolate chip cookie would be torture! Ice cream or cookies, which could you live without?
Spelt cookies and goods
Over the past few months, I've been trying to change my diet to incorporate more whole, organic grains. I bake frequently, and I've added rye and spelt flour to my arsenal of ingredients. However, I've never baked with spelt before, so I'm not sure how to handle it just yet, besides knowing that it's low in gluten (and acts accordingly). Also, most recipes I'm finding on the internet call for enough butter or sugar to make any health benefits of spelt moot!
Do you have any delicious recipes that call for spelt? Bread, cookies, crackers, I'd love to hear it.
If you had a cookie made for yourself, what would it be?
Taking JEP's topic to the cookie. I am not much of a candy eater. But I can make cookies all day long.
If I were a cookie I would be a linzer cookie with raspberry in the center.
What kind of cookie are you?
What kind of cookies did you leave for Santa?
Actually don't recall (senior moment) what kind or even if I did leave cookies out for Santa on Christmas Eve. When my kids were young, we made old-fashioned cut-out cookies decorated with icing & sprinkles. Each child selected their best cookie for the old stoneware "Santa" plate & left along with a cup of cocoa...and a note. Carrots for the reindeer, too. Like magic, only crumbs were found on the plate Christmas morning. Do you recall leaving cookies for old St. Nick?
My favorite store-bought cookie is _____
I have three---the original Oreo, Fig Newton and Walker's shortbread. Granted, these are only eaten once in a blue moon but I can't seem to match their taste in a homemade variety. When Girl Scout cookies are available, Samoa's & Thin Mints come into the picture for that brief time! Do you wash down your favorite packaged cookie with a big glass of milk? Or are you a milk or coffee dunker?
Molasses in December
I want to make some molasses crinkles for Christmas (I love the spice). Right now I only have blackstrap molasses and virtually every recipe that calls for molasses specifies "not robust/blackstrap." Does anyone know if I can substitute it without a problem? Also, do you have any favorite uses/recipes for this sweetener?
Milk and cookies lovers, look no further!
I thought that I had tasted what could be the best chocolate chip cookie in the city...at Chocolate Haven, at City Bakery, Levain, etc., but last night, I was floored by a dessert that topped any of those experiences. Next time you're on Houston street, head over to Houston and Thompson. Jane serves the best damn milk and cookies dessert that I have ever had. period. Robyn, this means YOU!
What's your most unusual cookie cutter?
People who make cut-out cookies have so much patience...I have never mastered a successful recipe let alone the technique...However, I am in awe of all the endless shapes & varieties...made of tin, plastic & copper with some leaving detail imprints. A friend actually made a Ground Hog shaped one for Feb 2. Do you collect them? What kinds of cookies do you make? Any other uses...sandwich cut-outs? What is your most unusual or prize cookie cutter?
Chocolate Chip Cookie Secrets...
Everyone can make a chocolate chip cookie but what makes yours better than the rest. Please share a tip or recipe with us...
I use half butter half shortening in mine and they turn out nice and soft....
Mmmm...bar cookies
Mix-up, spread in a pan, bake...less time consuming than rolled or shaped cookies. The hardest part is waiting long enough for them to cool before cutting into squares & taking that first bite! A few of my favorites are: brownies (of course!), lemon squares, fig bars, the original Hello Dolly & Rice Krispie treats. What bar cookies do you bake? Any tips on keeping bar cookies soft?
Go-To Cookies
Hiya!
Okay, so I am constantly being asked to make my grandmother's chocolate chip cookies and I am really sick of it. I want to try to experiment more, but people keep asking for these!
So, I wanted to know, what are the go-to recipes that you are sick of making, but that people *constantly* ask for from you?
Flat cookies?! Unacceptable.
Help! Every time I make chocolate chip cookies, they come out completely flat, translucent, and kind of greasy. My oven works fine, there seems to be nothing wrong with the ingredients. I use the Nestle Tollhouse or Martha Stewart recipes, which are both very credible sources. What's going on?
Cookie Search
I love sweets. But I must admit I do not love mediocre cookies. There are so few really, really great tasting cookies. Even when my friends or I bake them at home, they are not fantastic. Where can I buy the BEST cookies? What is the secret to baking awesome cookies?
Anyone else have a addiction to Nutella?? Read on!
I am posting this link to a recipe for anyone here on Serious Eats who, like me, has a serious addiction to Nutella. It's amazing stuff! The post from www.bakeorbreak.com is old, from February. But the recipe looks amazing, and I had to urge to share! On top of my other baking adventures this weekend I just might have to make these!!! Oh so yummy...

Could anyone out there share a tried and true cut out cookie dough recipe?? I'm hoping for a really thick cookie like at Cookies By Design. Thanks!!
What is your favorite kind of cookie?
I want to bake a batch of cookies for my classmates (end of semester treat) - what kinds of cookies should I make? I want to make 3 varieties, at least one with a unique flavor combination.
Any tips for decorating cookies?
I have a fabulous recipe for sugar cookies and have agreed to bake cookies for a friends wedding. I would love to use royal icing, or fondant. Any tips? Which one do you recommend and why? These cookies are going to be small little heart shaped cookies. I was thinking of using edible gold, or something elegant to decorate them with. I'm up for suggestions!
recipe for oak leaf cookies sold by bauers bakery in NY in '50s
these were an almond paste or marzipan(i know i'm being redundant) cookie base in the shape of a oak leaf with a knockout bitter sweet chocolate covering. i've not been able to find out anything about the recipe, because i haven't tried in earnest till now that i'm retired, or the demise of the bakery chain. i did lunch at tony's italien restaurant (at the time the only 4 star restaurant west of the miss.) in st. louis in the late 80's and they did offer a very similar tasting cookie in the shape of a oak leaf, but not quite the same as the original. would love any help in this quest AND the winner will receive a box of the cookies when the recipe is verified....how's that???thank you very much.
