Mothers' Day eats

So here I am, planning a menu for Sunday brunch (some kind of quiche, lox and bagels, pancakes for the kids) and was wondering you all take the opportunity to go crazy and make the most fattening dishes of deliciousness ever, or do you keep it simple?
What's the plan?

My favorite brunch recipe!!! Minced Beef on Toast

It's the Navy version of Sh*t on Shingles, but I simply love this. You are supposed to put it on toast. But when I was working for the Navy SEALS, it was put on top of hash browns, with poached or baked eggs on top.

1 1/2 lbs ground beef
2 medium onions, chopped
cooking oil, if needed
salt and pepper
5 tablespoons flour, approximate
1 (16 ounce) can whole tomatoes, diced
5 1/2 ounces tomato juice
2 cups hot water, approximate
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg, to taste
1/2 teaspoon sugar, to taste

1. Crumble the ground beef into a skillet and brown with the onions.
2. If beef is very lean, add a tablespoon or two of cooking oil.
3. Salt and pepper to taste.
4. Add flour, one tablespoon at a time, stirring and cooking each spoonful, before adding the next.
5. The flour must be cooked to preclude a starchy taste through out.
6. Add enough flour to absorb most of the oil.
7. Stir in the tomatoes and the tomato juice, followed by the water.
8. Allow to simmer on low heat to thicken.
9. Adjust consistency as necessary.
10. Add nutmeg and sugar and adjust to taste.

Sunday, Bloody Sunday - U 2?

Sunday brunch, Bloody Marys; you get the drift? Someone mentioned Bloody Marys the other day and I realized there hadn't been one at a brunch here since Super Bowl Sunday. We usually infuse own own chili vodka for our special concoction and this past summers' was quite good. I had difficulty finding serrano peppers at the farmers market, but did get Purihra peppers, which the perveyor promised to be XXXXXXX hot. (Does anyone know anything about them?) Nonetheless, the pepper vodka infususion kicked butt.

Are you a Bloody Mary specialist? A secret ingredient you wish to divulge? I recently became aware of a version in Leland,MI at The Cove, that uses a 6" chub as the swizzle stick and is called the "Chubby Mary". Are Bloodys a tradition at your house for a special occasion? (like Super Bowl or a Sunday?) How about the garnish - celery, hot pickled string bean (New Orleans style), olive, caper berry? It seems as though the garnish is indigenous to particular regions, no?

Sunday Brunch

Growing up, we had a Sunday Brunch around noon at my grandparents house. Good fresh bagels, rye bread, lox, cream cheese, whitefish salad, chopped liver, liverwurst, dry roasted sliced turkey, ham, several kinds of cheese all came from the small Jewish deli, as well as wonderfully crisp lettuce, tomatoes, onions, capers to top them with. Home made dishes included german potato salad (the best kind. Lots of pepper and bacon, mmm...) and cold cucumber salad. Everything was so good and fresh! It brings back wonderful memories of my childhood.

My question to you is: Did you have a Sunday Bruch? What foods graced your table?

Easy Hollandaise Sauce For Special Family Breakfasts

On special occasions/holidays I like to create a huge breakfast "buffet" for my family and friends. I like to include great coffee/juices, fresh fruit, toasted artisan bread, thick sliced bacon, spicy sausage, scrambled eggs, some type of breakfast potato along with a "traditional" eggs Benedict.

My hollandaise sauce has always been the store bought (Knorr) variety which pales in comparison to the real deal. I would enjoy some ideas that will create a real hollandaise.

As a bachelor (sometimes with assistance) my special breakfast has created a great holiday tradition. All the dishes go under water and I do them later. I use paper plates (confession). Bottom line: I can participate in a holiday and then relax and enjoy my friends, family and football.

NYC brunch/lunch spot for a bridal shower in September

In need of a spot in NYC to host a brunch/lunch for 40 women for a bridal shower in september. Any thoughts? Can have it on Long Island as well but not far from city.

Ever been to brunch at L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon?

I'd like to take my boyfriend to L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon at the Four Seasons NYC for Sunday brunch. For some reason, I've had an impossible time finding anything about brunch there online--pricing, variety, whether it's worth it, etc. Have you been there and/or can report on the experience? Do you know where I can find a menu or listing online? Thanks!

Where have you enjoyed the most lavish brunch buffet?

Over the weekend, I enjoyed a phenomenal brunch at the Four Seasons in Boston. Unlimited Oysters, clams, LOBSTER (tail & claws), dim sum, peking duck, ham, roast beef, cheeses, breakfast foods...well, you get the picture. I could not believe the unlimited lobster.

But what impressed me most was the service. Our waiter told us that if there was something special that we'd like to eat the next time we had brunch (e.g., lamb), let them know the day before and they would make sure to have it for us! Now that is truly unbelievable service.
