Do you scoop your bagels?

Some women are asking for their bagels hollowed out to cut calories: http://nymag.com/daily/food/2008/06/reader_demands_essabagel_custo.html
I am very neurotic about food & have a tiny dog but I have never 'scooped'-surely having 1/2 makes more sense

What rules? The bagel or a bialy?

I LOVE both and can only choose one or the other based on location, time of day and if toppings and toasting are involved. What's your preference?

TOO BIG BAGELS?

Can someone tell me why bagels have gotten to be the size of hubcaps? They just seem to get bigger and bigger except for the horrible frozen ones at the market which no one eats anyway. And why can noone bake a bagel like he ones of my youth? Crusty outside, chewy inside!

Where to Eat in NYC?

A colleague and I will be traveling from Iowa to New York City later this month for a conference. Could you recommend a few restaurants for us to try? We're looking to be a little bit daring -- try something new, you know? But also maybe authentic NYC pizza, bagels, etc.

Our hotel is near Times Square, but we're willing to venture out and
explore.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Homemade bagel recipe....

I love bagel sandwiches and thought it would be pretty cool to make my very own homemade bagels.

What to put on which kind of bagel?

me = old fashioned pumpernickel -- nearly black and as dense as osmium -- with a super thin schmear of cream cheese, slice of large -- vidalia -- onion and ripe -- beefsteak -- tomato.

herring in thick -- sour creamish -- cream sauce on the side.

Bagels

In response to a question on the radio today on Bagels in or near Morristown, NJ. Suggestion: Super Bagel in Livingston on Livingston ave. Best tasting bagel I personally have ever had however, their oven does not cook evenly and bagel could be a little on the dense side. A real bad side effect is the owner who is one crazy "B". Next would be Noahs Bagels in Chatham/Madison on Main st. An excellent bagel with a light crust crunch on the top and a good texture. Plenty of seeds if that's what your into. The Black Russian is an outstanding favorite of my toasted with butter.

Old School NYC bagels?

You know what I am talking about. Dense. Visible holes. Not huge. Crusty. Fully cooked inside. Chewy.

Where can you get them now? Discuss.

Here is my current favorite bagel place, though they are more of the revisionist type:
