Real Mexican taco shops in Dallas area?
I just moved to Dallas (actually north Dallas, near Plano) and I am looking for a real Mexican (not Tex-Mex) taco shop. I used to live in San Diego and everywhere you went you could find a small mom & pop taco shop that offered a nice big carne asada burrito as well as tacos and definetly homemade salsas and pico de gallo. I am not talking about a sit down restraurant. I am looking for a place that might have tables outside or if they do have indoor dining its not a chain restaurant a la Taco Cabana.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Especially locations that might not be to far from the Plano/North Dallas area. Gas prices would defeat the purpose of an good inexpensive lunch.
Thanks in advance.

I'm going to have to make a trip up to Snow's BBQ in Lexington, TX. It beat out Kreuz Market. If they managed that it must be good.

Need a fancy vegetarian friendly date spot in Austin
Hi,
I am looking to take the gal I have been dating out for a special night. I am a vegetarian so looking for places that do that well, but I do eat fish.
Doesn't have to be super fancy, but def should be romantic/cozy/fun. Any thoughts on Wink, Jefferies, Driskoll, 4 seasons?
Or could be way more laid back then that.
I don't want to head out to Fredericksburg because we are both swamped with work right now, that is something I would consider in the future.
BTW I am in North central, so would be nice if the places were downtown or north.
Need Great Austin Eats!
I'll be visiting Austin, Texas in April and have started to scout some spots for the 5 day jaunt. What are some great central city eats? I'm looking for low-key, funky places for dinner, as well as great breakfast joints. Maybe a couple of places that are good for groups too. And if anyone wants to throw in some bars with good music and beers, I'd love some tips. Thanks!
Great food in Houston! Help!
Going to Houston next week, and need recommendations for interesting and fun restaurants... Tex Mex and everything else! Thank you!
Restaurant Closing
I just found out that one of my all-time favorite BBQ joints is closing, after being in business for over 50 years, due to gentrification in their neighborhood taking away most of their core business and raising costs to the point where they just can't operate anymore. I'm devastated.
What have you done to mourn the passing of a good friend like this, aside from raging against the machine and stuffing your face full of their food while you still can?
Houston Eats
For all my fellow Houston foodies...
My brother-in-law is coming in from Perth (Australia) and has never, ever been to Texas before. He's very eager to try the local food. What restaurants do you think of when you think "Texan" in Houston? What restaurants do you think of when you think "Houston" for that matter? I'm curious to hear other opinions aside from my immediate gut reactions of Goode Company BBQ et al.
Where would you take him?
Where to eat in San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas?
I am vacationing in Texas in December: 2 days in San Antonio, 1 day in Austin, 2 days in Dallas/Plano. Where should I eat? Breakfast, lunch, and dinner recommendations welcomed and appreciated!

I just moved to Dallas. I'm much close than I was (Chicago) to the Mexican border, but all the places I see are Tex-Mex style food. Where can I find some real Mex-Mex food? Thanks.

If you make it to Houston TX, eat at Mark's: to die for food.
My partner and I went to Mark's this past weekend and we are still talking about the wonderful food and service. We were lucky enough to be there when Executive Chef Mark Cox was offering a splendid black cod and baby lobster.
Where to eat in Austin around 6th Street?
