Kafteles: recipe?
I am trying to find a recipe for a Russian food, Kafteles (chicken and beets). Most of the recipes call for creating a borsht by soaking beetroot in water for three weeks. Has anyone done this with success? Are there other options that do not call for this step?
looking for an authentic recipe for a jewish russian coffee cake
i have been searching for a russian coffee cake recipe. there is a bakery in the lower east side of manhattan that sells one and sells to ZABAR'S. but i can't find anywhere on the internet. if is an amazing cake. i think it is a yeast dough, very dense, made with cinnamon, walnuts. raisins and honey and made in sheet pans.
so if anyone knows such a recipe, pls e-mail me.

Russian/Ukrainian restaurants?
Does anyone know any authentic Russian or Ukrainian restaurants in the city, Brooklyn, or Queens?
I know there's Veselka in the city, but I'm not a fan. There's also plenty of so called "Russian" restaurants in Brooklyn, but they're clearly not authentic. They're dubbed Russian due to the fact that the majority of their patrons are Russian, as well as the owners. I can't seem to find any good spots.
