Like a cross between a Bloody Maria and a Salty Dog, this slightly spicy cocktail is lightened with lemon juice and a splash of grapefruit soda. Cholula hot sauce makes it just a little hot, and Clamato adds complexity. Don't worry, you won't taste the clam juice.

The michelada is probably my favorite summertime drink, an incredibly refreshing beer cocktail made of a Mexican pilsner-style beer with tomato juice, hot sauce, lime juice and salt. Why not, we wondered, serve it up in frozen form? Sure, it's not as sweet as most ice creams, but what could be better for a summer afternoon than frozen beer? This ice cream is actually quite savory. There's as much salt in the recipe as sugar.
More of an accompaniment than a chaser, this traditional blend of tomato, orange, and lime juices is Zane Lamprey's favorite tequila partner.

Although I love to cook and bake and in general spend much more time preparing meals than is probably practical in today's world, there are a few things that I think of always and only as store-bought. I don't churn my own butter, grind my own flour, roast my own coffee beans, or squeeze my own juice. So when I discovered fresh tomato juice in Marion Cunningham's The Breakfast Book, it seemed rather novel and exciting.
