My Three Favorite Lamb Burgers in New York

A Hamburger Today J. Kenji López-Alt 35 comments

Lamb is on almost every menu out here in New York and seems to be getting ever more popular (lamb neck pastrami, anyone?). Even the burger scene is becoming a bit more sheepish these days. Indeed, some of my favorite burgers in the city are made from—gasp!—lamb these days. Here are three of the very best. More

A Sandwich A Day: Greek Salad Sandwich with Garlicky Tzatziki at Prune

New York J. Kenji López-Alt 3 comments

To call the Greek Salad Sandwich at Prune a sandwich is a bit of a stretch. More like a big bruschetta, if you ask me. A thin slice of toasted baguette gets smeared with a layer of creamy tzatziki, followed by slices of green bell pepper and slivers of Kalamata olives. When I see Greek Salad on a menu this time of year, I immediately assume it'll be some really awesome chunks of heirloom tomato in there, this being tomato season and all, but alas, it was not the case. The Best Oatmeal in NYC: The 2011 Edition

New York The Serious Eats Team 21 comments

Last year, we brought you our report on the best oatmeal in New York. But we never tire of our favorite hot cereal, and neither, it seems, do restaurants. We thought last year's roundup was pretty exhaustive, but this year we've uncovered more under-$3 winners, more dessert-like indulgences, and—wait for it—bacon oatmeal. You knew it had to happen. Tonight I met Craig's mom and sister for the first time (they're visiting from Washington State) at one of my favorite restaurants, Prune. The reservation was for 8:30 and Craig and I arrived at 8 to have drinks at the bar. When Craig's mom and sister arrived (at exactly 8:30, perfectly prompt) the hostess told us that it'd just be a few minutes longer. We weren't seated until almost 9. But guess what? We didn't care! Why? Service! They were so nice about it. The hostess took our coats, our bookbags (mine was especially heavy because I just got my manuscript back from my editor with line edits!) and then helped make room for us at the bar. The... More
