The truth is that Cinco de Mayo is primarily an American holiday, not a Mexican one. Does that mean that you should settle for bland bean burritos and margaritas mixed from a bottle? No, sir. Use this excuse to make some spicy guacamole, rockin tacos, and deeply chocolaty chocolate-chile cookies.

Easter is a big deal in Greece. The rituals and celebrations start on Good Friday (the Epitaphio), continue to Holy Saturday (Megalo Savato), and culminate in a lamb roasting, wine drinking, Lenten fast breaking party on Easter Sunday. Greek Easter feasts often take days to prepare and hours to eat. Not to worry—you can still make these traditional recipes even if you don't have the proper equipment to roast a whole lamb on a spit.

This week's get-together is inspired by one of the literary world's greatest partiers: Ernest Hemingway. In the 1930s, Hemingway lived in the Florida Keys and this tropical paradise became the setting for his novel
To Have or Have Not. Hemingway's tale of intrigue and daring would be perfect at your next book club meeting. Because one day of partying isn't enough,
Rio Carnival 2011 will stretch from Saturday, March 5 to (Fat) Tuesday, March 8. The highlights of Brazilian carnival are parades with elaborate costumes and even more elaborate floats, all heralded by live music and dancing. Because revelers are so busy having fun, they'll often eat from street vendors throughout the day rather than sit down to one long meal. If, like me, you can't make it to Rio this year, you can still recreate the food and fun with this Carnival Cocktail Party.

Why wait until
dinnertime to celebrate Valentine's Day? Start the day with a nice breakfast, the leisurely kind you usually save for the weekend. And it need not be in bed. What's wrong with just eating at the table? I've never really understood the charm of breakfast in bed. Finding crumbs while rolling over tomorrow night? Of course, any of these dishes can also be served in bed, if you're into that.
