We recently
told you about a food blog devoted to cooking recipes from George R.R. Martin's fantasy series
A Song of Ice and Fire. An SE reader pointed us to yet another one,
Inn At the Crossroads, apparently the first blog to set out to cook dishes from the series. There's well over 100
recipes on the site so far (most recently, baked venison and simple Dornish fare) with corresponding passages from the books and photos of the prepared dishes. Both are worth checking out, especially if you find yourself thinking, "man, I could really go for some Westerosi cuisine right now."

When seasonal veggies abound (such as, for example,
now), it doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, or how good you are with a julienne attachment. Once in a while you're going to need a little help taking your produce to inspired heights. These ten websites, many of them lesser-known, are among my current favorites when I'm staring at a full crisper and need a little jolt of creativity. Behind each site is a person or team who knows how to find extraordinary beauty in ordinary vegetables.

I won't say there are no great Filipino restaurants here in the United States (there are) but they are few and far between. Even in Los Angeles of all places. Over the past few years, I've been attempting to unlock some of these mysteries by researching and writing about Filipino food on my blog,
Burnt Lumpia. But in order to bring a greater awareness and appreciation of Filipino cuisine to the rest of the world, or at least to Southern California, I had to actually start a food truck.

It was tough to see
Midtown Lunch poobah and Serious Eats buddy
Zach Brooks leave New York City in January, but he's sure making us hungry over there on the West Coast with his
pork belly banh mi and
plantain-stuffed burrito reports on
Midtown Lunch Los Angeles. (But there's no midtown in L.A., Zach!! Yeah, he doesn't care.) Also joining the ML family earlier this year was
Midtown Lunch Philadelphia because, let's be honest, a man can only eat so many Wawa sandwiches.

Clockwise from top left: Obama meatloaf; zombie meatloaf with pesto-spaghetti hair and hard-boiled egg eyes; SpongeBob Squareloaf; snowman loaf with turnip purée as body coloring. [Photographs: Meatloaf Creations] And you thought meatloaf cupcakes were the extent to which you could trompe l'oeil with ground meat and accompanying vegetable matter? Allow me to introduce you to the blog Meatloaf Creations, which turns the iconic American comfort food into a medium of expression you'd never dreamed of. Why? It's FUN! My kids love to get their hands messy in meat! When they help make their food, they're more likely to eat it. Which brings me to... It's Sneaky. Meatloaf is the ultimate place to hide veggies. Just give 'em a whirl...

[Image: saveur.com] Saveur editor-in-chief James Oseland brings his magazine to the huge food lovers' conversation the rest of us have been participating in for years with his magazine's first-ever reader-generated Saveur 100. The list's a little less quirky this year, but it's still fun to go through and see how many you are familiar with. Props to our friends at Hot Doug's and the Astor Center. And who knew that former Peristyle chef-owner Anne Kearney had opened a restaurant, Rue Domaine, in a suburb of Dayton, Ohio? Serious eaters in Dayton must be thrilled....

"As the only Serious Eats blogger in the contest, I had to represent." My Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie entry. Click here for the recipe » I've only been blogging for a few months now, so I was very surprised when Bon Appétit invited me to take part in their first ever Blog Envy Bake-Off on December 10. The first place prize was an all expenses paid trip to Las Vegas for the magazine's Vegas Uncork'd festival. Some of the other competition. To be totally honest, I didn't think I had any chance of winning. I felt like Anne Hathaway going up against Kate Winslet, Angelina Jolie, and Meryl Streep for Best Actress at last year's Academy Awards. Sure, I was...

"We had to remove a few outdated recipes, like one for a Mushroom and Banana Salad." 'I Know How to Cook' Recipes Eggs in AspicBeef Carbonade with HerbsPain d'Epice (Spice Bread)Apple MeringueAlmond Macaroons Je Sais Cuisiner by Ginette Mathiot, first published in the 1930s, is pretty much the bible of French cooking. You'll see it on kitchen shelves throughout France, usually faded with boeuf bourguignon-stained pages. For the first time, the giant, super comprehensive text has been published in English thanks to translating help from Clotilde Dusoulier, the voice behind the now six-year-old food blog Chocolate & Zucchini. It's a doorstopper of a book (no beach read here) but filled with classic preparations, hand-holding instruction, and charming illustrations by Blexbolex....

Elise Bauer. [Photograph: Ree Drummond] Mama Bauer's turkey stuffing. [Photograph: Elise Bauer] We are longtime fans of the recipes and want-to-eat-the-computer-screen photography by Elise Bauer of Simply Recipes. She took the time to chat with us about her Thanksgiving plans this year—which will, absolutely not, involve the green bean casserole with fried onions. Where are you feasting? At my mom and dad's house in Carmichael, California, with all of my siblings—there are six of us kids. We like to keep it really simple. Thanksgiving is not a time for experimentation. There's enough chaos and stress with all the family showing up, we want the actual meal to be as easy as possible. What's on the menu? Any family recipes...
