What's Your Favorite Food Court Stop?

Over at Chowhound there's a great thread about favorite food court eats--like Hot Dog on a Stick, or Manchu Wok, or the now-defunct (but apparently once beloved) Hot Sam's Pretzels. I was always, always a Cinnabon girl, even after the day I realized they packed about half my daily recommended caloric value. Gooey cinnamon treats trump just about everything else in my book. In all honesty, if I were given a month to live, I would probably start every one of my remaining mornings with a Cinnabon. But there's a whole world out there of shiny, colorful food court booths. What's your favorite stop at the food court?... More

Video: The Fast Food Song

I first head the Fast Food Song--at least, the "A-Pizza Hut! A Pizza Hut!" part of it--at summer camp, where it wasn't at all unusual to belt nonsensical songs or break into dance. But I had no idea that in 2003, this version by the Fast Food Rockers reached #2 on the British pop charts. The music video is, er, colorful. Though some parts of their dance are identical to ours (of course you flap your wings when you say "Kentucky Fried Chicken!") there's a lot more to scratch your head about. What's with those shoulder pads? Do fast-food servers really wear corsets? And why on earth is there a big blue dog following them around? Decide for yourself,... More

Fancy Fast Food

Fast food has been turned on its head by Fancy Fast Food, a blog that transforms items like the Popeye's chicken above into Spicy Chicken Sushi. There are detailed instructions for every dish so if you've ever been interested in turning a Taco Bell tortilla into tortellini, there's now a handy tutorial. If you have your own fancy fast food creations, you can submit them by e-mail as long as you stick to their rules: no additional ingredients other than a garnish, and no gratuitous post-processing in Photoshop. According to their Twitter feed, they were also just offered a book deal. As Fancy Fast Food says, "Why have it your way, when you can have it the fancy way?"... More

'Consumer Reports' Rates Fast Food French Fries

Unfortunately, Consumer Reports only hits the big three--McDonald's, Burger King, and Wendy's. The two redheads get "very good" ratings while the King merely receives a "good," with CR saying what I've always thought about BK fries: "coating detracts from the quality and makes texture a little tough, not crispy."... Should Fast Food Chains Give Kids Toys?

Photo from GadgetDude on FlickrNot because they're choking hazards, and not because they're a commercial gimmick—one official wants to stop fast-food toys because they're making kids fat. Concerned about rising rates of childhood obesity in his country, Brazilian federal prosecutor Marcio Schusterschitz petitioned a judge to ban fast-food outlets from giving away toys with kids' meals. As Reuters reports, he contends that including these toys gives kids extra incentive to eat unhealthy food: "It is necessary to remove toys that are used to leverage the sale of food that has little nutritional value," his official statement reads. What do you think? Do kids' meal toys train children to prefer junk food? Or are they just a harmless bit of extra... More

Taco Bell's Volcano Taco with Lava Sauce Returns to Menus Nationwide

Note: I got to visit the Taco Bell headquarters in Irvine, California, this week, hence all of this impressive knowledge. "It is true. I am back." First introduced last September, the Volcano Taco appeared on Taco Bell's menu for only three months. Whether it was the red crunchy taco shell (just the normal one with artificial dyes) or the spicy orange goop (which goes by "Lava Sauce") or the limited-time-only appeal, people were into it. Really into it. When it disappeared from menus, Facebook groups formed with folks acting like it was the fast-food apocalypse--even worse than when the Crazy Gordita Crunch left us. Thankfully, all the members of "I Refuse to Go to Taco Bell Until They Bring Back... More

Domino's Launches Line of Bread Bowl Pastas

Carbophobes, stop reading. After a few months of testing the markets in Southern California, Domino's has just rolled out its Bread Bowl Pastas nationwide--"So good," the tagline goes, "you'll devour the bowl." Unlike Pizza Hut's recently launched Tuscani Pastas, delivered in enormous family-sized tubs, Domino's versions are individually sized: single-meal portions of chicken alfredo, primavera, mac and cheese, Italian sausage marinara, and chicken carbonara pastas, baked into edible bowls. And if none of these sound good, customers can build their own--starting with a penne base, you can top it with alfredo, three-cheese or marinara sauce, and add up to three meat or veggie toppings. Prices range from $4.99 to $6.99, and ordering online knocks off a dollar. If all... More

Dunkin' Donuts Waffle Breakfast Sandwich vs. McD's McGriddle

You asked, we ate. I grabbed one of Dunkin' Donuts' new Waffle Breakfast Sandwiches and then a McDonald's McGriddle joint--DD's obvious inspiration--for comparison. First impression while placing both unwrapped sandwiches side by side: Looks like we're getting a bigger sandwich from Dunkin', I thought. But then we unwrapped them, after the jump.... More

The Great Fast-Food Wings Taste Test

In preparation for the big game, we ordered a mess of wings from the big chains: Domino's, KFC, Popeyes, Pizza Hut, and Papa John's. Braving the threat of orange fingernails, we found the spiciest, the slimiest, the all-around most delicious, and the most edible blue cheese sauce for dunking. More
