Inspirational Burger Painting

A Hamburger Today Robyn Lee Post a comment

[Photograph: braintees on Etsy] I enjoy browsing Etsy not in search of handicrafts to accent my home with, but to see what atypical things people make and try to peddle on the Internet (refer to Regretsy for the worst).... More

The Hamburger Cushion, on Etsy

A Hamburger Today Adam Kuban 9 comments

Will the Hamburger Cushion become a meme in the way the Hamburger Bed did? Who knows and who cares—it's a whole lot more functional and practical. For sale on Etsy, where it's described as "Hamburger Scatter Cushions," it comprises... More

More Cupcakes

Available on Etsy, $26 Two bits of cupcake-related ephemera came across the transom this week. Might as well roll them into one post. First Corby Kummer examines the cupcake in the March issue of The Atlantic. After the now-obligatory yes-cupcakes-are-overexposed-but-I'm-still-going-to-write-about–them intro, he goes on to say that "the craze is worth keeping" if only so bakers will get the damn things right. Cupcakes may be largely icing-delivery vehicles, but the cake shouldn’t be cardboard and the icing shouldn’t be grease—twin concepts few artisan bakers (artisan being the new word for homemade) seem to get. Cooked French buttercream, which many of them choose (it shows off Technique), is not a suitable cupcake icing. It’s oily. It smears. A simple glaze—think... More

Hand-Sewn Organic Catnip Pumpkin Pie

Allison Hemler 3 comments

Want a way to serve pie to your cat without getting a stomach ache? Etsy seller CatzillaCrafts offers an organic catnip pumpkin pie toy for $6.99 a slice, guaranteed to keep the kitty away from the kitchen when you're baking for the holidays. The hand-sewn pie features a realistic "flaky pie crust" and a "dollop of whipped cream." CatzkillaCrafts also offers carrot cake, cherry pie, doughnuts, eclairs, banana pancakes, and red velvet cake toys. Though I don't think your cat will really care what shape the catnip comes in, at least you can convince yourself he or she is as food-obsessed as you are.... More

Salt-n-Pepa Salt and Pepper Shakers

Adam Kuban 2 comments

File this under Why Didn't I Think of That. Etsy.com seller Drinkanddream created a salt and pepper shaker set that plays off the name of '80s hip-hop group Salt-n-Pepa. I feel bad for Spinderella, though. Maybe Drinkanddream can craft a lazy Susan in her honor. Salt-n-Pepa shakers, $30 on Etsy. Related: Cute Salt and Pepper Shakers... More

Cupcake Knuckles: Now That's Hardcore

Erin Zimmer Post a comment

Brass knuckles don't seem like the right topic for Serious Eats. But cupcake knuckles? Yes, please. There's not enough cupcake tats out there on otherwise bland fingers, which is why we love this framed cross-stitch, available on Etsy by seller citydown. She is the same woman responsible for stitching another embroidered essential which displays the wise proverb: Cake is the New Black. [via Craftzine]... More

Happy Happy Crocheted Ice Cream Cone

Lia Bulaong 1 comment

Amigurumi is "the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures," and Etsy seller happypancake is a devoted practitioner, as you can probably tell from her super cute Happy Happy Ice Cream Cone. $7 will buy you a cone in your choice of flavor, but if you're not into ice cream perhaps one of her other crocheted wares will catch your eye? Her Cherries and 3 Peas in a Pod are $5 each and painfully cute, but oh my heart belongs to Mr Nanner, the crocheted banana!... More
