Environmentally Friendly Gingerbread House

Kaufmann shares her blueprints for the gingerSolaire, the cookie version of her mkSolaire Smart Home, at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. While the chocolate solar panels wouldn't stand against the sun the way real ones should, the organic gingerbread walls look sturdy enough—that is, until the teeth come. Gourmet Shares Best Cookie Recipes from 1941 to 2008

Just in time for this year's round of holiday parties, Gourmet dug around in their archives to find their favorite cookies from 1941 until now. All of the recipes are unchanged from their original publication, though many from the early years include slight changes or explanations. Death of the Girl Scout Cookie?

Founded in 1912, the Girl Scouts are pushing their 100th anniversary. But with few camp sites offering internet access and iPhone reception, and first aid badges losing hipness, the organization is fighting to remain relevant. With membership falling, the Girl Scouts hired a management consulting team and came up with one solution: de-emphasize the cookies. Apparently they want to be associated with more 21st century girl power, which doesn't leave room for the sweet snacks. Wait. Shouldn't cookies be associated with every era? And hope? And happiness? 'Bang Bang!' Said the Cookie

Grand Junction Free Press Straight from Colorado comes a cookie with a bang. The Grand Junction Free Press was first to hip us onto these 9-mm-shaped sugar cookie made by Mary Lincoln, owner of the Slice O' Life Bakery in Palisade. Though Lincoln informed me I was behind the times and she was doing turkey-shaped cookies when I called her earlier this week, she promised that next week the guns would be loaded with butter and sugar and ready to go for $2 a pop. Signs in Lincoln's store read, "No background checks" and “No waiting period." Blogwatch: Culinary Fool's Maple Cream Cookies

This time of year, it seems the leaves are falling into my path at every corner. There is one leaf, however, that—as I wade through puddles of red and crispy orange—I have yet to encounter. Brenda Pederson of Culinary Fool blogs that elusive fall leaf, Maple Cream Cookies. A Canadian delicacy, the leaf-shaped cookies are filled with maple cream, made from 100% pure maple syrup. Blogwatch: Chubby Hubby's Banana Ice Cream and Brownie Cookie Sandwiches

Aun Koh's blog may be called Chubby Hubby, but this week a more appropriate title would have been "chunky monkey." When, after a few weeks of testing, his wife, S., had finally perfected her banana cake recipe, she still had a stockpile of bananas reminiscent of "a gorilla about to face a harsh winter." She incorporated the bananas into banana ice cream and sandwiched them between little brownie cookies, which Aun dubbed "crownies." The results were little treats that could satisfy King Kong's sweet tooth....
