It's with much sadness that we report that City Provisions closed on Monday. In an email sent out last night, Friedman thanked the community for its support and declared that he wasn't exactly going away. But he also admitted that the high cost of purchasing sustainable ingredients was the main issue.

It's the last call for Great Lake Pizza at 1477 West Balmoral Avenue. One of the great pizza destinations will no longer be serving some of the country's best pies from their current location come February.

Wow, so this happened, again. (More fuel for the anit-Di Fara fire, aye Girl Slice?) Di Fara has had an ongoing struggle with keeping things up to code. The first in a string of closings happened back in March of 2007. Things had been going pretty well of late, but it looks like Dom DeMarco is back on the DOH radar.
With National Pizza Month drawing to a close, I'm in a reflective mood. Let's take a look at some of the new NYC pizzerias that have opened this year — including Barboncino, Wild Rise, Zero Otto Nove, and more. We also pour some olive oil out on the curb for some of our home slices who closed this year.
We've mentioned what I like to call "The Various Rays" a lot on Slice. And to anyone outside NYC, the saga can be confusing to say the least. Heck, even for people who live here, there's often disagreement about which of the "World Famous Original Ray's Famous Pizza" joints is the original.

Sad news for coal oven–pizza lovers: Totonno's is closing both its Manhattan locations.
