For a slow day at the office made even slower as a result of hitting the sauce a little fervently the night before (hey, no one's judging anyone here), a hearty bite of Tex-Mex is just what the doctor ordered. And it's what you'll order, too, if you find yourself in a similar predicament and manage to make your way to the doors of Trigger, the newest place in Portland to procure that soul-pleasing marriage of Texas and Mexican comfort food.
'chile relleno' on Serious Eats
We've already written about the tacos from Tacos Morelos, an awesome taco cart in the East Village that's little brother to a cart in Williamsburg and one in Queens, but they've got sandwiches as well. One of the selections was a chile relleno torta ($5). Overall it was a tasty sandwich--but this was a situation where the whole was greater than the sum of its parts.
La Verdad, the Fenway Park taqueria, wouldn't be the first place to come to mind if someone asked me to name the best Ken Oringer restaurant, what with Clio, Uni, Toro, Coppa, and now Earth in Maine to contend with. But ask me for a favorite Ken Oringer dish, and top seed would probably go to La Verdad's Chile Relleno Torta ($9.95). It's crazy good. So good that every time I eat it, I mentally slap myself on the back of the head for having waited so long since the last time.
