January wasn't a huge boozing month for the Serious Eats crew; quite a few of us were down with the flu. But there were still some good teas and milkshakes to be had, plus fresh sugarcane and kumquat juice in Saigon (yes, we're jealous of Erin Zimmer's journey.) Check out the slideshow for our Drinks editor's new favorite local cocktail bar, plus other highlights in beer and beyond.
'best drinks' on Serious Eats
Maybe in January we'll abstain, but December was a month of many sips: steaming hot chocolate and mulled wine, spicy brunch cocktails and crisp evening ones. Here are the highlights.
There was no shortage of delicious drinks to be had this month, whether we were sipping mulled cider or a Manhattan with your Thanksgiving turkey. Here at Serious Eats, we included some destination-worthy drinks in our holiday travel, and also enjoyed some winners in the comfort of our own homes.
Well, October didn't wrap up exactly as we'd planned, but before the storm hit the East coast, Serious Eaters did some celebrating (Will Gordon got married!) and some sipping. This month's highlights included a few unusual beers, a super high-end egg cream, creative cocktails, and more.
Wow, another month flew by! Quite a few of us on the Serious Eats team were on the road, so we had a chance to sample drinks around the country—and the world! New York editor Max drank a few vacation drinks in New Orleans, Chicago Editor Nick tried fancy coffee in Thailand, DC Contributor Brian Oh sampled cocktails in Japan, and back in NYC, our editors enjoyed Vermont cider and the last warm-weather rosé.
We did pretty well for ourselves in the drinking category this month, including sips of cocktails in New Orleans, root beer floats in San Francisco, and fresh pomegranate juice in Israel. Tell us: what was the best thing you drank in July? Try any new beers, juices, or cocktails? Make an awesome smoothie or milkshake?
During the month of June, we found ourselves enjoying new-to-us spirits (and old favorites), excellent small batch beers (and very, very small-batch beers) as well as a few unusual cocktails around the country. Here are the highlights of our early summer drinking.
As the weather gets warmer, it seems that we've been looking for more refreshing drinks—cocktails with soda and citrus, crisp beers, anything to beat the heat. As we look back on the month of May, a few special sips really stood out.
'Tis the season for eggnog, for hot toddies and spiked cider, for apple brandy, buttered rum, Spanish coffee, and all things warming. Over the past few weeks, we've toured the city's bars, seeking out delicious and unusual winter cocktails. Here are the best winter drinks we tasted.
