In Videos: Nannerpus, Denny's Super Bowl Commercial

"It's Nannerpus!!!" It's...what? If I had watched the Super Bowl then I would've seen this Denny's commercial at the appropriate time, like before they gave away their advertised free Grand Slam breakfasts on February 3. But better late than never, as it took me about two seconds to fall in love with the eight-legged, mustachioed, pancake-loving banana. And even if the commercial is outdated, Nannerpus lives on at nannerpus.com, Twitter, and Deviant Art. Watch the video after the jump....

Guac Bowl 2009 Winners

Guac Bowl 2009 entries. The Los Angeles Times What started as a friendly rivalry between two roommates eight or so years ago in Atwater Village, California, has turned into Guac Bowl, an annual Super Bowl Sunday tradition among friends, now with Guac Bowl East, a Connecticut spin-off. According to the Los Angeles Times, there were 32 entries this year, including winners "Guac, Paper, Scissors," by Christine Landry, and Michael Zimmer's "Gueer," or guacamole beer. If there was a category for best guac inspired by Danny Boyle's wildly popular film inspired by a game show that nobody really watches anymore, "Slumguac Millionaire" (made of spicy, curry-flavored guacamole) had that one....

Bobby Flay Super Bowl Menu Possibilities

When I think about which celebrity chef would have a kick-ass menu at his or her Super Bowl, my thoughts always gravitate to Bobby Flay. And why not? He's a really good cook, he's a serious sports fan, and his food definitely lends itself to football-watching on TV. So the serious eaters at world headquarters here went through all the Bobby Flay cookbooks we had in the office looking for recipes that we could easily and quickly make for our own Super Bowl parties. His chipotle-honey-glazed wings with toasted sesame seeds and green onion sound delicious even if you have to make them in the oven instead of on a grill (we know it's winter). His wild mushroom quesadillas would...

Build a Snack Food Stadium For Your Super Bowl Party

Holy Taco got much holier after creating the best snack food stadium ever with a field of guacamole, Slim Jim goal posts and a Twinkie-buttressed stadium. Is that our favorite shaggy-haired Steelers safety Troy Polamalu down there? Oh, nope. Just a Vienna sausage in a cheddar helmet. For security purposes, a bacon wall will keep the throngs of screaming fans—in this case tortilla chips—from falling onto the field. And hey, what do you know. A 20-ounce sausage Goodyear blimp just chilling (thanks, Photoshop!). Total calories: 24,375. Total cost: $86.47. Total deliciousness: 1 Billion trillion dude. One billion trillion. Sounds pretty priceless. Related: All Aboard the Meat Ship, Matey...

The Great Fast-Food Wings Taste Test

In preparation for the big game this weekend, we ordered a mess of wings from the biggest chains to track down the best. Braving the threat of orange fingernails, we found the spiciest wings, the slimiest wings, and the least objectionable blue cheese dipping sauce. Best All-Around Wings All photographs by Robyn Lee KFC. They have everything you look for in a wing: good skin-to-meat proportions, good sauce (or a sauceless option, as pictured), good bellyache of success after, and good leaning tower of bones to prove you ate too much. Case closed. Best for Spicy Fans If your taste buds have an ego for heat, go for the Domino's "fiery." These pack a punch, man. Sure, the real spicy...

Seriously Delicious Super Bowl Party Giveaway: Snow's Barbecue Brisket

Serious barbecue freaks (like me) were shocked, not to mention curious, when a little-known, only-open-Saturdays barbecue joint, Snow's BBQ, was named the best Texas barbecue joint in Texas Monthly Magazine's "100 Best Barbecue Joints in Texas" issue. Soon after Snow's started shipping nationwide (Calvin Trillin's piece in the New Yorker on Snow's tipped us off) the Serious Eaters ordered some Snow's brisket, which turned out to be powerful good. With the Super Bowl coming up, we're giving away 3 pounds and 7 ounces (a big old hunk) of Snow's fantastic brisket. Thanks to the good folks at Snow's, one lucky serious eater (and the seriously lucky friends) will score the tender, smokey meat for the big game. To enter...

Mixed Review: Lipton's Onion Dip and Simply Organic's Guacamole for Football Parties

For quarterbacks and wide receivers, the football playoffs are all about touchdowns, field goals, and fumbles. For the rest of us, they're all about cold beers, crunchy chips, and creamy dips. With the NFC and AFC Championship games this Sunday and the Super Bowl coming up on February 1st, I decided to "tackle" two of America's favorite football snacking staples in this week's Mixed Review: Lipton's French onion dip and Simply Organic's guacamole....

A Giant Win for the Giants, a Small Win for Me

It was one of the greatest three and a half hours of my life, and shockingly it had nothing to do with winning my bet with Boston Globe food editor Sheryl Julian or the seriously delicious spread I put out for ten friends. I will enjoy the lobsters Julian is sending (let the record note that I got no points in this bet). And the food we ate was great—don't get me wrong. We had a bo ssam (pork shoulder) and all the fixin's (chicken wings, lettuce leaves, rice, sauces, kimchi, Kewpie cole slaw, homemade crackerjacks) from New York chef of the moment David Chang's fledgling catering effort, and it was all incredibly delicious. I also made some nachos with...
