Photo of the Day: Shopsin's Taco-Fried Chicken

Kenny Shopsin doesn't make just any fried chicken; he makes taco-fried chicken coated in spicy buffalo wing sauce. And it's goooood. Random shards of tortilla chips provide pockets of crispy, corny deliciousness in every juicy bite chicken. If you can't make it to Shopsin's restaurant, try out the recipe at home. Now you have a use for those tortilla chip bits at the bottom of the bag. In Videos: Kenny Shopsin on 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien'

To ring in the release of his new book yesterday, Eat Me: The Food and Philosophy of Kenny Shopsin, restaurateur Kenny Shopsin was on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and, like most chefs, did a cooking segment with O'Brien. On his best behavior, apparently Kenny Shopsin was warned to keep it clean. After using the word "goo" to describe the burnt edges of cheese on a grilled cheese sandwich, Shopsin said: "Usually I use a different term, but they told me not to." To our disappointment, not a single beep was heard. They made pancakes! Mac n' cheese pancakes, peanut butter and jelly pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes, S'mores pancakes, and the newest addition to the Shopsin's menu: the Conan... More

'Eat Me: The Food and Philosophy of Kenny Shopsin'

I loved the thread about Shopsin's, and the interesting thing is that every commenter is right on some level. I have known Kenny Shopsin for 25 years, and he is profane, unreasonable, more than occasionally rude, charming, funny, and totally ridiculous—sometimes all simultaneously. He's also a really good cook who can make me laugh, even while insulting me. Does that make me a masochist? I don't think so. So based on all the above, I was thrilled when we received an advance copy of Kenny's cookbook-memoir-philosophical tome, Eat Me: The Food and Philosophy of Kenny Shopsin. I knew it would be like Kenny, endlessly fascinating, sometimes infuriating, and totally engaging. Kenny Shopsin: Love Him or Can't Stand Him When it... More

What to Watch on DVD: "I Like Killing Flies"

Legendary New York eatery Shopsin's reopened last week, in its latest incarnation at the Essex Street Market. A few years back, after inhabiting the same cramped space in Greenwich Village for decades, Shopsin's moved a few blocks to a bigger space. When that outpost closed late last year, some observers feared it was the end of the road for Kenny, the beloved and eccentric restaurateur. If you want to know meet the man, you've got a couple of options: 1. Find no more than three of your closest friends and visit the new space, where you can sample any of Kenny's hundreds of menu choices, or 2. Visit Netflix and cue up Matt Mahurin's 2004 documentary, I Like Killing Flies,... More
