I'd heard so much about Zuppardi's Apizza over the years but never managed to make it there to try their New Haven–style pizza until our road trip came along. I was glad I finally did. Zuppardi's is a slice of heaven.

To eat at Craigie on Main is to witness a chef (Tony Maws) at the top of his game. As the waiters recite the composition of each dish, the ingredient lists may seem unlikely (pork heart and sea urchin) or precious (foam, really?) or unfamiliar (yuzu kosho). But on the plate, it all makes sense, every bite; whimsically inventive dishes seem natural and focused. It's like watching a juggler with seven balls in the air—the more that's tossed in, the more difficult it is to keep a rhythm, to present a coherent show. But Maws nails it.
Alaina and I cruised out of Boston at around 11:30. Our plan: head to Providence for a sandwich tour—the food store-cum-cheese shop Farmstead, by husband and wife chef team Matt and Kate Jennings, and Hewtin's Mobile Hot Dog Truck, owned by Matthew and Kristin Gennuso of Chez Pascal. What better time to visit a food truck in New England than on a sunny day in mid-March, with wheels at your disposal?
On Tuesday, the Serious Eaters are road-tripping from New York to Boston in a Buick LaCrosse, lent to us by the good folks at General Motors. We are totally psyched and have a basic outline of the trip mapped out. So far, the stops include: Walter's Hot Dogs (Mamaroneck, NY), Tarry Lodge (Port Chester, NY), Craigie on Main (Boston, MA), Clear Flour Bread Bakery (Brookline, MA), and Summer Shack (Mohegan Sun, CT). Got any other delicious suggestions?
