The Serious Eats All-Star Sandwich Festival in Photos

On such a record-breakingly scorching Saturday, it can be hard to lure hundreds of people out of their houses to ferry over to Governors Island. But when mighty delicious sandwiches are involved, your odds are much better. Thank you to everyone who came out and joined us at the first Serious Eats All-Star Sandwich Festival over the weekend. We had a blast meeting all of you and munching on turkey heroes, sliders, falafel, banh mi, and all of the other sandwiches, drinks, sweets and pickles on the menu while kicking back on the grass. Here are a bunch of snapshots from the day. More

Today at AHT Headquarters: Slider Ingredients for the Serious Eats All-Star Sandwich Festival

We don't have a weekly slideshow on AHT like we do on Serious Eats since not much burger-related stuff goes on in our office on a regular basis. But today isn't just any day—it's the day before the Serious Eats All-Star Sandwich Festival! That means we've got lots of burger ingredients for the one thousand sliders Kenji is making tomorrow. He describes them as a mashup of White Manna sliders and In-N-Out Animal Style: Pat LaFrieda patties cooked in mustard, then steam-griddled on a bed of onions with steamed Martin's potato rolls and In-N-Out-style spread. Check out some of the goods in the slideshow! More

Serious Eats Sandwich Festival: The Final Menu, Prepare to Salivate

We're at t-minus two days until our Sandwich Festival (!!). Tickets are sold-out and unfortunately there won't be any available at the door. But for those who will be joining us on Governors Island this Saturday for an afternoon of sandwich-inhaling, beer-swilling, and mingling with great folks, you have this menu to look forward to. It's, in a word, serious. Cue happy tummy grumbles. More

Serious Eats Sandwich Festival: Our Sandwich Haiku Winner

It's time, sandwich-loving boys and girls, to reveal the winner of our haiku contest we presented to you a couple weeks back. The mission was to see which poet out there could craft the best sandwich-themed haiku in honor of the SE All-Star Sandwich Festival this Saturday. Not only will the winner get to walk taller as a published poet (well, published on our site at least), but our SE overlord himself Ed Levine will hold a live reading of the winning haiku for all festival-goers to hear! Without further ado, the winner. More

Serious Eats Sandwich Festival Profile: How We're Making Our Event Green

The green features you already know about at the SE Sandwich Festival: the cilantro on the banh mi, the falafel fritters from Taim, and Governors Island's grassy hills of course. But we're also very concerned with the sustainability of the sandwich festival. Let's face it, garbage piles up at events and every time we go to one and see the overflowing trash bins, we're left wondering, how can an event be more green? For starters, we're using special, never-before-tossed SE frisbees in lieu of more traditional paper or plastic plates. More

Serious Eats Sandwich Festival Profile: Pork Belly and Zucchini-Ricotta Sandwiches from 'wichcraft

Tom Colicchio's sandwich mini-chain 'wichcraft—with locations in New York, San Francisco and Las Vegas—is a reliable go-to for weekday lunches. You can add them to the awesome sandwich roster at our All-Star Sandwich Festival (only t-minus two weeks!) on Governors Island. They'll be serving two 'wiches, including this grilled pork belly with smoked cole slaw and dijon mustard on fresh-baked bread. And all the vegetarians joining us (well, the carnivores too of course) can look forward to another meatless option: zucchini and ricotta with tomato and olive oil. More

Serious Eats Sandwich Festival Profile: Bánh Mì Zòn

When we were thinking about bánh mì sandwiches for the festival line-up, one immediately came to mind: the winner of our best bánh mì in Manhattan. Bánh Mì Zòn's classic bánh mì is about as good as they get. The baguette is fresh with a light, tender crumb and a well-blistered surface that maximizes crackliness. Their pâté is the star of the stuffing, luxuriously rich and smooth. Hungry yet? Obvious next question, have you bought your tickets yet? More

Serious Eats Sandwich Festival Profile: Taim Mobile's Falafel

When we were brainstorming vegetarian options for the Serious Eats Sandwich Festival, the crisp-shelled, light-on-the-inside falafel from Taim immediately came to mind. Conveniently, Taim now has its truck sibling, Taim Mobile, to travel on the Governors Island ferry with us to the festival and fry falafel fritters to order. Hungry yet? Obvious next question, have you bought your tickets yet? More

Serious Eats Sandwich Festival Profile: Best Pizza's Meatball Sub

We'll be spotlighting all of the delicious sandwiches, desserts, and drinks you'll find at the Serious Eats All-Star Sandwich Festival from now until the big day. "Wow. That might be the best meatball sandwich I've ever had," said our man Ed when he took a bite of this meatball sub from Best Pizza in Williamsburg. Just look at the thing. Hungry yet? Obvious next question, have you bought your tickets yet? More

Serious Eats Sandwich Festival Profile: Sullivan Street Bakery's Pizza Bianca

We'll be spotlighting all of the delicious sandwiches, desserts, and drinks you'll find at the Serious Eats All-Star Sandwich Festival from now until the big day. SE overlord Ed Levine has a theory that everything tastes better with the light, airy, hand-formed flatbread revelation that is pizza bianca. So, of course, it would be represented at the festival. Joining forces with the serious meats from Salumeria Biellese, it will become our exclusive SE sandwich, never before available to the general public. Hungry yet? Obvious next question, have you bought your tickets yet? More
