Pizza Snack: Doritos Collisions, Pizza Cravers and Ranch Tortilla Chips

[Photographs: Adam Kuban] Stick the word pizza on your snack-food item, and Slice is sure to buy it. The latest pizza-but-not-pizza thing I saw at the supermarket was Doritos Collisions Pizza Cravers/Ranch flavor. The Collisions line features two flavors in one bag. The four combinations are Hot Wings/Blue Cheese, Zesty Taco/Chipotle Ranch, Habañero/Guacamole, and Cheesy Enchilada/Sour Cream.... More

Pizza-Flavored Snacks: Pizza Balls

Pete Schweddy's favorite pizza-flavored snack. [Photographs: Adam Kuban] There comes a time in the course of pizza-blogging when going into detail about crispness, flavor profiles, and preparation methodology is beside the point and when it is merely enough to announce to the world that Yes! This thing exists. Here it is!. This is one of those times, so ... Pizza Balls. They exist. Commence snickering. From Brim's Snacks. And, if you look closely, you'll see that Brim's follows a certain American tradition of including a tiny Bible verse on the packaging, in this case Isiah 40:8: "The grass withers... More

A winner in the Slice Pizza Haiku Contest, that is. We asked readers last week to compose a haiku and submit it for the chance to win one of three fabulous prizes. Slice Contest: Pizza Haiku

Want to get your hands on a box of Pizza Pretz? Enter the Slice Pizza Haiku contest and you just might. Let's not get into what does and doesn't define haiku and just say that what Slice is looking for is what most of us learned as children—the ol' unrhymed 5-7-5 syllable structure—but with a twist. It must be pizza themed. Send your pizza-themed haiku to adam (at) sliceny (dot) com with the words "Pizza Haiku" in the subject line. The best, as judged by me, will win three (3) boxes of Pizza Pretz and a 1.25-inch pin that... More

Pizza Pretz: Big in Japan?

Not so long ago, this reporter found himself at Yagura Market, grabbing a quick lunch of sansai udon to go. (There's not much in the way of good pizza in Midtown.) While waiting for order number hyaku ju ni to come up, I figured I'd pick up a box of that old gaijin favorite, Pocky, manufactured by the Glico company. Though I was familiar with the sweeter versions of the chocolate- and what-have-you covered pretzel sticks, I was not aware of the company's Pretz line of snacks, which apparently predate Pocky (the latter being Pretz dipped in different confectionary... Mmm Mmm Weird

In the neverending quest to squeeze more time out of the day, Portland's Oregonian reports, an increasing number of drivers have resorted to eating meals at the wheel. Detailing the assortment of on-the-go meals on the market, the story gives us this: Campbell's launched its Soup at Hand line last year with four soups. The response was so positive, company spokesman John Faulkner says, that officials expanded the line to 11. Three flavors — pizza, Mexican-style fiesta, and chicken and stars — are aimed at restless, car-bound kids. A pizza-flavored soup better be aimed at kids, 'cause who else would... More
