The Tacolandia festival in Los Angeles delivered dozens of the city's finest tacos, all in one place...and we tried them all.
There's a pocket-sized music festival hiding out in Sonoma. With small crowds, big smiles, and a killer musical lineup tucked amongst the vineyards, the Huichica Music Festival may well be heaven. The festival is in its fourth year at the Gundlach Bundschu Winery (that's gun-lock bun-shoe) and 2013 was twice as big as 2012. If the quality of the food and music lineups are any indicator, the festival is on the brink of becoming a capital B big deal. What could make a vineyard-based music festival even better? A fantastic selection of good eats, of course.

What did we do this weekend? Make about 800 sliders at the Sweetlife Festival at the Merriweather Post Pavilion. Many festivalgoers came back for seconds and thirds of Kenji's ultimate sliders. It was a crazy day, not to mention interrupted by some scattered thunderstorms which made for some fun umbrella-protected griddling of burgers. We are really freaking excited for the first annual Bottle Rock Festival, coming to Napa Valley this week. Featuring an absolutely stellar lineup of musical acts (have I mentioned that The Black Keys are one of my favorite things?) and an equally kick-ass roster of food and drink, Bottle Rock is bringing together the best of the music and Bay Area food worlds. In addition to an increasingly impressive musical showing, Outside Lands has become a destination for food and wine lovers, too. San Francisco restaurants, food carts, and farms are showcased; an always-buzzing Wine Lands tent shows off what California has to offer; and good-natured festival-goers drink beer and pass joints while waiting in the (sometimes, very long) food lines. Outside Lands always aimed to be a destination festival —now, it truly is one.
This weekend, we jammed out at the Newport Folk Festival. And in between soaking up Alabama Shakes and Jackson Browne (er, plus 25 gallons of rainwater), we searched for some serious food. We spent the weekend eating biscuits, drinking bourbon, and having a grand time at the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival. In its second year, the four-day event celebrates the rich food and drink traditions of the south, bringing together talented chefs hailing from 13 states and D.C. The group of expert chicken fryers, bourbon distillers, biscuit bakers and other Southern food and drink authorities rolled up their sleeves to teach us at seminars and feed us inside the tasting tents. People are realizing that there's more going on here than just Tex Mex, food carts, and barbecue. All that said, locals wondered how this festival would be executed in contrast to those held in, say, Aspen or Pebble Beach. We set out to document every single po'boy at the Oak Street Po' Boy Festival. The selection was impressive, ranging from traditional po' boys with fried shrimp and cochon de lait (roasted pork), as well as several versions of debris (beef in gravy), and some truly inventive po' boys. Actually, many of these wouldn't even qualify as true po' boys. Bananas foster po' boy? Sashimi po' boy? We can hear the purists grumbling now. But we tried them all anyways. Last week, we shared a national guide to barbecue events in the United States. Though my knowledge of barbecue events is pretty limited, I included as many local events as I could find.
