With the newly opened Allumette, a fine dining and cocktail scene is emerging in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, an area where such a scene was previously nonexistent. "I love amari and I also love Tiki cocktails, so those influences can definitely be seen in the drinks here," says bar manager Serena Herrick, formerly of Harvard & Stone.
'Echo Park' on Serious Eats
Taco Zone is one of Los Angeles' most beloved late night taco trucks, having successfully weathered the flood of gourmet fusion trucks that continue to zip around town (although, with the tide receding, some are beginning to look for any brick-and-mortar in a storm). In fact, it almost feels like Taco Zone has been there forever, quietly serving a wide selection of meats while the Echo Park neighborhood around them changes.
Tired of imported Caputo flour and DOP San Marzano tomatoes? Of course not. But when Angelenos hunger for food a little close to home, Echo Park's Mohawk Bend delivers. The kitchen is full of state pride—all their ingredients are sourced from California vendors. The gastropub dominates this stretch of Sunset Blvd, situated in the century old Ramona Vaudville Theater.
