It's been a good year for vegetarian food here in New York City, where I've tasted everything from Indonesian food in Elmhurst to heirloom tomatoes in Brooklyn. Here are my ten favorite meat-free bites of 2012.
'Dok Suni' on Serious Eats
Dok Suni, a small, unassuming restaurant in the East Village, was where I had my first encounter with Korean food. Since my first visit there I've eaten at many other Korean restaurants—but there's something special about your first. Even within a cuisine that relies heavily on fish sauce, Dok Suni manages to turn out a respectable number of vegetarian dishes.
At Dok Suni in the East Village, the meal check is presented with a shot glass of the house ginger-cinnamon tea. You'll surely want more than just a shot, which is why they also sell it chilled for $4 a glass.
