Back in early December, chef Daniel Patterson organized a fundraising dinner at Coi, one of his San Francisco restaurants, to benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy. A portion of the proceeds were to be reserved for the acclaimed Brooklyn restaurant Governor. Last week, Governor's owners announced that it will not be reopening. Now Patterson will be rerouting the $5,000 raised for Governor to another New York food business in need: Brooklyn institution Totonno's. More

Broccoli and cauliflower are staple vegetables in my kitchen, so I assumed I'd eaten these brassica in just about every way possible. But Daniel Patterson's recipe for Grilled Brassica with Dandelion-Green Vinaigrette in Adam Roberts' Secrets of the Best Chefs proved me wrong. Patterson grills an assortment of brassica--including vibrant romanesco and leafy rape and cicco--until well-charred and tender. He plates the vegetables with plump bulgar wheat, a squeeze of lemon, and (best of all) a verdant, bitter dandelion vinaigrette. More

All you food-lovin' Twitter haters out there might change your mind about the microblogging service when you see some of the food luminaries who are tweeting. The San Francisco Chronicle namechecks a few: Ruth Reichl, Martha Stewart, Mark Bittman, Grant Achatz. The paper localizes the story by noting some well-known Bay Area chefs using the service: Daniel Patterson, Chris Cosentino, Nate Appleman, Eater SF, and Richie Nakano.
