I'll repeat what I've said in the past: in terms of sweets, Chicago is a blessed city. In no particular order—because it was hard enough to pick my favorites—here are my top ten for the year.
'Ada Street' on Serious Eats
While our local officials still seem to regard food trucks as a nuisance, last weekend the mobile vendors got the chance to gather together without the worry of getting shut down at Time Out Chicago's annual Food Truck Social. Our photography intern, Debbie, braved the weather for both days to bring you a recap of what you missed.
Though you may usually hear "Ada Street" and "cocktail" in the same breath, this is the kind of restaurant you visit for one thing but leave remembering another.
It was his stint at the legendary Evanston restaurant Trio—onetime culinary home of chef Grant Achatz, now closed—that Tim Lacey considers his most formative. His 14-drink list at Ada Street is ambitious, with a gradual progression from lighter, apertif- and gin-driven items to more robust cocktails, long on brown spirits.
