Creativity behind the bar doesn't just extend to fancy cocktails and extensive beer and wine lists. From fancy finger foods to hearty booze-absorbing entrées, here are my most memorable bar eats from this year.
'508 GastroBrewery' on Serious Eats
With the distinction of being one of Manhattan's few brewpubs, the "gastro" part of 508 Gastrobrewery fittingly serves its brewery half with a menu of beer-friendly plates, including a selection of small plates perfect for bar dining.
Like many folks, Anderson Sant'anna De Lima received a homebrew kit for Christmas a few years ago. He started brewing and reading about the science of beer, and now he's brewing a barrel at a time in the basement of his restaurant, 508 Gastrobrewery in the far West Village. Only a handful of NYC restaurants serve beer that they brew on the premises, so we were eager to check out Anderson's setup and taste the beers.
