Don't Want a Whole Bottle of Wine? Try a Can

There's already a brand of wine in a can, but this wine can prototype designed by Jens Andersson and Jonas Forsman stands out from other canned beverages with its elegant contoured shape and black matte finish. The Wine-can won first prize for the 2005 Swedish Aluminium Packaging Design Award and prizes for Best Environmentally-Adapted and Best Design Student. Investors, get in on this!

I like how their website suggests that, among other activities, it's great while sailing, yachting, biking... great idea that drinking and "driving"!!
I wonder if that guy that recently got a DUI on his motorized cooler had any in his haul?

@Southern_bella: Haha, I hadn't noticed that! Maybe they should be more specific: "Great after you're done sailing, yachting, biking..."

I've had wine in a can, but I prefer the nostalga of the bottle myself.
Dispite the fact that it resembles cologne; I think it's absolutely beautiful packaging!

hehe...and what's with the suggestion that it's good while skiing?
They should remove all suggestions and simply put "Drink responsibly".
Southern_bella at 12:00PM on 07/17/08
or is it "nostalgia"?

I drink mine out of a brown paper bag to avoid appearing snobby, so bottle or can make little difference. ;) (burp)

@Southern_bella - excellent catch. How irresponsible! They pay huge bucks for their advertising and you know they were advised. They should be held accountable for the dire repercussions caused by their marketing targets.
Speaking of advertising SE - My cursor keeps accidently hitting the Perdue ad. If I hear, "Hi, I'm Paulette Mitchell......." one more time, I may have to stay away from this page. Pop-ups are bad enough, but now we have commentary. Spare me, PLEASE?

@Perky - Maybe in Australia (this is an Aussie company) they have laxer laws on drinking and driving? I can't think that an American company would be so irresponsible as to suggest such activities while drinking.

@ Perky, haha, you're not hiding Boone's Farm in your brown paper bags are you? :P

Fairly nice looking design, but it would be a nightmare to manufacture, fill, and package. It looks like it's designed to be filled and lidded from the bottom of the can, but the "necked" top would make pressing the easy-open mouth and attaching the staytab a difficult proposition. The absence of a top lip would mean the cans would either be ringed and packed upside down, which consumers don't like, or packed in boxes, which no-one involved likes. I have to admit I'm surprised that this won a packaging award.

i say: why not try wine in juice box sizes, like in spain? they were a big hit with my friends and me while studying abroad there this spring. ;)

It is gorgeous! I hope it comes out in the market some time.

@Southern_Bella - that's the beauty of the brown paper bag, see? Most people would assume it's a vintage very expensive wine that I don't want want stolen, don't care to share, and don't want to appear like a wine snob. At least I think that's what they'd think seeing me drink out of a brown paper bag, don't you? Does Boone's Farm fit that category???? ;-D
PerkyMac at 7:55AM on 07/18/08
@Perky, that explains why cops always try to take your brown paper bag, to protect you and your vintage? Then the slip of paper they give you, asking for your presence in a friendly court room on such and such a date, is to simply retrieve your wine, they've kept it in storage and will release it to you for a "corking" fee.
aka "open container law and public intoxication fine" :P
