Rachael Ray's Memoir, Coming Soon

20080701-rachaelray.jpgRachael Ray is currently working on a memoir, possible to be titled EVOhNo. Whether or not you'll be able to finish it in 30 minutes or less is yet to be determined.

Oh god no.

What a waste of paper...

I agree. Rachel Ray, in my opinion, is not a "chef." Even her talk show is substandard. The really good chefs are on the PBS channels. I've been watching PBS for two decades and have learned so much from actual "teachers who aren't concerned with revealing clothes or plastic Hollywood smiles. The FoodNetwork's demographics seem to appeal to the 16 to 24 year olds giving them the fast food, no technique, no imagination approach to food. I find them boring at best.

I would not purchase one of Rachel Ray's cookbooks so I would not be inclined to purchase her biography. She seems to be a really sweet young lady with a very limited vocabulary. I can't imagine why her biography would interest anyone.

Oh, spare us.

Think of the trees that will be used to make the paper that will be wasted!

It will have to be less than thirty minutes of reading for the crowd who can't even sit through thirty (actually it's more like 22 total, isn't it?) minutes of a TV show without having tantrums about what they are being offered as they sit there on the couch.

Might be a good book to include in an MBA program for Women in Television though.

Chapters should be labelled $. Then $$. Then $$$ and so on.

I have no problem with that.

YAWN.

Memoirs are for long interesting lives, are they not? Just another way to fill her pockets.

Pretty soon, Eddie Mays will be doing infomercials with her as they yell their pitch at us and try to out-decibel each other.

oops - meant Billy Mays

Again, zero interest in personal lives of stars. Rachael Ray does not claim to be a chef, only to want to help folks do everyday cooking. This is her point of differentiation and what makes her show, at least in theory, worthwhile. And while she may not exactly be tolerable for 20 minutes, at least she brought something to cooking instruction that had been missing for quite some time. I grew up watching Yan Can Cook; that show inspired me to believe that cooking was something *I* could do. It was nice to have something like that return to TV, since I'm pretty much an idiot in the kitchen and even Pepin is about as relevant to me as calculus is to an average fifth grader.

She is pretty much self made so you gotta respect that a little.

And she has never claimed to be anything more than a cook and TV personality.

I'm not buying her book but I don't understand all the hate and bile from the internet critics.

How miserable does your life have to be to hate someone you don't even know.

I'm not talking about anyone here but this is just something that's been eating at me lately.

I'm thinking her book will be keeping Oprah's book club books company in the 2 for $1 bin.

@glover Unlike you, I don't feel or see any hate for Rachel Ray or anyone else in her arena. Being self made doesn't necessarily make you good at what you do. I think we all seek "quality" not mass quantity in people who, very simply, cook. The "cream rises to the top" in the real world. Unfortunately, not everyone will be a hit on a cooking show. There are some dynamite chefs/cooks on these shows. And then there are the "other" ones.

I thought memoirs were for the END of a career, life, etc...isn't she a little young for them yet?

@dianeb: What are your measures for "quality"? The most frequent complaint I seen in general is that Rachael Ray is not an accomplished chef, which IMO misses the point of the show. I think your complaint about being unimaginative is perfectly valid; can you suggest a chef that presents quick, easy and imaginative cooking? That's definitely a show I'd watch religiously.

I have a title for it Annoying Sells with forward by Donald Trump.
This one will be in the dollar store right next to Trump's book in no time flat.
I have said this before anyone can be loud and push casseroles. That is not a talent. Putting dinner on the table in 30 mins is not a talent. It is what you should do.

...Back in the day, I remember growing up in upstate new york, I always smelled like salami! How cool is THAT? Back then we didn't have chicken stock that you could just pop in the fridge OR salad in a sack, so times were rough. My family tried to be healthful, we ate a lot of sammies and only used EVOO when cooking. My daddy used to throw some EVOO action into a screaming hot pan and cook us his delish meals. I think my big break in the food industry came when I was thinking, "Burgers, you could really entertain a crowd like that, I bet I could turn any dish into a burger!" Then I met my sweety and...crap! I dropped my garbage bowl! I gotta take a quick break, I'm gonna keep chopping away until the next chapter!...
