Cereal Quiz
Mornin', eaters. How's tricks? Or should I say, how's Trix?
By way of (lame) pun I lead you to this breakfast cereal ID quiz on AOL Food. Without the box, without tasting, can you ID cereals by looks alone? Oh yeah? What are the two over to the right here? I got 16 out of 20. Can you best that?
And you know, this was perfect timing, as I've been on a huge cereal kick lately. I'm particularly enjoying Raisin Bran Crunch and Cracklin' Oat Bran right now. What cereal are you digging into this week?

I took this yesterday and got 16/20.
And then my buddy the cereal fiend got a 16/20. Hrmm.

I took the quiz yesterday and also got 16 of 20.
I'm into Trail Mix Crunch atop yogurt this week. When I go for cereal by itself, I tend to fall back on tried and true Cheerios. File me under bland and boring.

And I wonder if Jerry Seinfeld can get a perfect score, cereal doyen that he is.
holdthemayo at 8:09AM on 07/22/08
i no longer eat any of the cereals on the quiz (not many processed foods in this apartment), but I got a 20/20....i guess i used to be a big cereal fan...

I suppose this makes me un-American, but since outgrowing my teen fav of Frosted Flakes, I'm not a big cereal fan, even a healthy cereal fan.
Funny--I just has a conversation with a female friend of mine--both of us liked Cracklin' Oat Bran as kids until we read the nutritional data and realized it has as many calories as granola--twice the calories of most cereals, sweet and 'healthy' varieties alike.

Oh, and I still got 18/20 despite not having eaten cereal in eons--how sad is that?
HeartofGlass at 8:35AM on 07/22/08
The only one I knew for sure was Raisin Bran, but I still got half right. Not too bad for random guessing. Never was a cereal fan.

How's 19/20 sound? :-p The only one I missed was the Cracklin' Oat Bran, probably because it was the only one I've never eaten.
I used to eat a lot of cereal as a kid. Not so much anymore - now that I have to buy my own food (darn adulthood) its just way too expensive for me most of the time. Besides, I try to avoid buying pre-processed, pre-packaged food as much as possible. Breakfast in my house is usually fruit or a homemade bagel.

20/20, I'm a little embarrassed... I do eat cereal for breakfast every day though. My favorite is Honey Nut Chex, but this week I'm digging the Cheerios Crunch and the Honey Nut Cheerios.

19/20 ... I LOVE cereal!
katalia at 10:20AM on 07/22/08
18/20 - but then again, my college job was working in a dining hall and helping to stock the cereal station. If I'd gotten fewer right it would have been embarassing!
thistlerk at 10:20AM on 07/22/08
20/20 :-) I love cereal. And now I have a craving for Quaker Graham Squares and Trix. I love that trix got rid of the stupid fruit shapes and went back the little balls. Much more pleasing to eat that way.
ErikaWaz at 10:26AM on 07/22/08
I don't really like cereal.
gillsnthrills at 10:27AM on 07/22/08
19/20 because I thought maybe they were trying to be tricky and guessed Toasties on the Corn Flakes. They weren't that clever. I should have gone for the obvious. Cereal is my standby comfort food- especially for evening snacking. Life is probably my favorite.
valarie at 11:18AM on 07/22/08
16/20 but only because my husband is a cereal fiend who eats pretty much all of those cereals. I prefer to stick with the Rice Chex, Special K, Corn Flakes, Cherrios route.
ElspethAdair at 11:23AM on 07/22/08
@holdthemayo: I was thinking the same thing re: Seinfeld.
@thistlerk: I discovered Cracklin' Oat Bran at the cereal station in the dorms at college. Used to love that array of hamster-feeder bins—and the weird milk machine we had. Both probably long gone in the reno they did to my old dorm.

18/20, a true testament to the power of advertising, I've never had about half of these cereals.

I got 14, and was surprised... though one of them I wsn't paying attention. I've been really into Trader Joe's Yogurt-O's (strawberry) even though they raised the price like almost a whole $1 in the 2 months since I started eating it. Grrr. (From 1.99 to 2.79 a box... wtf? Actually last time I went I think it was 3.49... ridiculous) I LOVE raisin bran crunch, and I recently - unbelievable, I know - had frosted mini wheats for the first time. Why do they get soft so quickly though?
feistyfoodie at 12:27PM on 07/22/08
@feistyfoodie...I tend to like the less sugary cereals (even when I was a kid) and like you, didn't try frosted mini wheats until about a year ago. I still prefer the unfrosted variety though. And along with the higher price on cereal, have you noticed the incredible shrinking boxes?
holdthemayo at 12:56PM on 07/22/08
15/20 after I second-guessed myself on a couple. You should always go with your first instinct! Oh man, why'd you show this to me? They have other ones for pasta, ice cream, ...
Cookieeater at 1:02PM on 07/22/08
I did the other quizzes, too. I completely bombed on the ice cream treat and candy quizzes. That can only mean one thing: I need to make friends with the ice cream man and eat more candy. LOL
holdthemayo at 1:13PM on 07/22/08
15/20! I would have FAILED a year ago, but the craptasticness of my college dining hall has me well-versed in cereals by now. :)
Pammeh at 2:52PM on 07/22/08
17/20. And I'm hopelessly devoted to Rice Krispies.
Kerosena at 3:42PM on 07/22/08
19/20/ I mistook a Corn Flake for a Post Toastie. D'uh!
Ahh...Cracklin' Oat Bran! Best tasting cereal most easily confused with Purina Cat Chow.
