8-Year-Old Forced to Eat Organic Macaroni and Cheese

20080701-onion.jpgA spot on Onion Radio News: "Despite the fact that 8-year-old Joshua Remmert can't stand the sight or smell of Annie's Homegrown mac and cheese, the young boy was forced against his will by his own mother to choke down an entire plate of the organic pasta yesterday."

I can almost hear the chorus of dads murmur, "I'll eat it if [name] doesn't want it... ." Annie's tastes good, people. The pasta has a nutty earthy flavor, and the cheese isn't all gloopity.

Don't forget it's the Onion -- It's all about the satire. :)

Still pretty funny, though. What kid doesn't want mac & cheese?

Hahahah. Thanks, bansidhe. I wanted to be subtle with it and let people pick up on the satire themselves, but it's probably worth pointing out before anyone freaks.

Eep! Sorry to ruin the fun, Adam.
Have to remember to go Wiki 'sense of humor' while I'm at it... ;)

I have to agree with The Onion. Even more than Paula Deen, even more than Serious Eats, it is my belief that Annie's Homegrown Mac and Cheese is trying to kill us, and in quite a perky yet glum manner.

The fact that you have to push in on the rabbit's butt to open the Annie's box always unnerved me a little... the product -is- good though.

I know it's not the point of the Onion headline, but remember the Salon article about the difference between Annie's and Kraft? That's what turned me off of the bunny-butt as a go-to meal.

(Where was that "sense of humor" Wikipedia article again?)

LOL. Funny as hell

i still want mac and cheese, all the time!

(whispering......hey kid, I don't like it either).

If they'd had 911 when I was a kid, I'd have reported my mother for making us eat liver and onions.

The point is, it's always unwise to force a child to eat anything he or she detests. I lived through that myself, tinned peas were the major bugbear in my young life, however I was small, and couldn't eat the amount of food put on my plate usually, and was forced to sit at table until my plate was empty...I sat there as long as overnight at times. This would be considered child abuse these days, but was considered 'just fine' by society back then. I never forced my children to eat ANYTHING ever. Forcing the child to eat the mac/cheese IS child abuse.

My bad, I didn't realise this was from 'the Onion'. Still, it happens in real life every day. BTW, PerkyMac...I have ALWAYS loved liver and onions, as do my children. I think taste buds must be genetic too, at least in the WAY we taste foods. Witness the great 'cilantro' debate....just google 'hating cilantro' or something like that, there's an entire site dedicated to cilantro haters. And, they have thousands of members.
