In Videos: George Carlin on Food, Live at Carnegie Hall (1980)

"Fussy eater is a euphemism for big pain in the ass."

In memory of the late, great comedian George Carlin, who passed away last night of a heart attack, here's a food-centric clip of his live performance at Carnegie Hall from 1980. My favorite part is his riff on tomatoes (at the 6:35 mark): "Something has gone afoul inside of a tomato. . . It doesn't look like it's finished. . . It looks like it's in the larval stage or something." Whenever I have to defend my stance of being an non-fan of raw tomatoes, I'll use this as my excuse. Watch the video after the jump.

I've watched that first video a few times today already, and I continued to laugh out loud. Awesome.

I will miss this wonderful man very much. Thanks for the video. I know he'd want to leave us laughing.

This was the first thing I heard when I opened my eyes this morning. What a loss. He is my husband and my favorite comedian because his diatribes mirror how we feel ofttimes. We had watched 3-4 hours of his stand-up yesterday...

We've lost two brilliant men in such a short time - Tim & George. Both irreplacable.

I remember watching George Carlin from the very beginning and was always awed by his talent and his quick mind. I'll miss his wit terribly. He didn't just make you laugh, he made you think.

George will be missed for his insights into our society. Personally i think that to remember him for nothing but his "7 words" is a shame. I'm going to put on my Carlin records tonight and watch his videos while i have a large ny style pizza in his honor! You will be missed George!

"Ever wonder about those people who spend $2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward." One of my favorite Carlin quips.

I echo his sentiments on tomatoes, and I know my husband will appreciate his view on yogurt. R.I.P. George. You will be missed.

So sad. My 16-year-old son is in deep mourning... he's heartbroken! Having only discovered George in the last year or two, I think he's feeling a bit short-changed, and understandably so. I myself was about that age when I discovered him, and have so many fond memories of playing his records (yes, they were vinyl) over and over again with my friends. Such a bright, funny, insightful man.

My favorite Carlin routine about food was the one where he discussed the rotten stuff in the fridge. Regarding something furry, "It could be meat. It could be cake. It must be meat-cake!" And, describing some completely unrecognizable greenish liquid as "lettuce soup..." (blech).

But my favorite overall was the one about STUFF. All true and so, so funny.

RIP George.

George was just pure genius. Cheers to George!
