Photo of the Day: April Fools' Day 'Eggs and Toast'

potd-aprilfoolseggtoast.jpg

Amy's April Fools' Day "Eggs and Toast" could've fooled me. The "egg" is actually Meyer lemon pudding and Meyer lemon curd, and the "toast" is toasted cinnamon cake slices. Learn how to make this trompe l'oeil dessert at Amy's blog, Eggs On Sunday.

I love April Fool's and get away with the same joke every year. All through the year I bake/cook delicious things to share, but April 1st I make these "treats"
Looks tasty, but isn't.
I always have another real treat standing by to wash away the salty bite of the chocolate covered salt dough.

Though I love the fact that you used the term tromp l'oeil, it would probably only be accurate if when you reached out to touch this it turned out to be a two-dimensional image pretending to be pudding and cinnamon cake pretending to be eggs and toast..

That said, I don't really know how to pronounce the term tromp l'oeil, and I can never spell it right (had to check it three times before posting this). :\

It sounds yummy regardless!

sarahj: Salt dough? That's just mean!...

Actually I had a friend craving salt all day yesterday, so she might have enjoyed that. :)

John: Ahh good point. As for how to pronounce it...yeah, I'm not going to attempt that. Still can't do my French rs correctly.
