Your Kitchen Needs to Lose Weight
Instead of focusing on losing weight by watching your diet, maybe you need to watch your kitchen. The New York Times's Well Blog gives an overview of Does This Clutter Make My Butt Look Fat?, a new book by Peter Walsh that explains how to de-clutter your home for a healthier lifestyle. If you want to start "stripping away the excess 'fat' from your kitchen," get rid of those kitchen appliances you don't use anymore along with anything that's broken, stained, or chipped.

No freekin way man. I will NOT get rid of my Le Creuset just because it has battle scars. That's ridiculous. I agree when it comes to chipped glasses and plates and broken appliances, thats just common sense. But stained cookware is just a sign of good use. Maybe his book was sponsored by Williams Sonoma?

I can't decide if seyo is being sarcastic....the author of the book was clearly writing about things like stained plastic ware and broken utensils, not a good pot with a few scratches.

I have been doing this, getting rid of tired old bowls, mismatched pieces, and replacing bit by bit with new bright things. My daughter is getting ready to move so my old stuff that is still usable, I can pack up for her until she can get stuff of her own!

My very favorite coffee mug is totally chipped but I couldn't part with it.

I buy things to USE them in the kitchen, not to have them all shiny and decorative. My favorite pots look a little battle-scarred and I don't care.
On the other hand, I've been sorting through stuff and getting rid of things I'll never use. There are plenty of things that I only use seasonally -- like holiday stuff -- that I'm not getting rid of. But really, if I only use ONE vegetable peeler, I don't need three of them.
And meanwhile, I've found things in the dark corners of corner cabinets that I probably will start to use now that they've seen daylight again. Mostly serving dishes.
