Washington Post Peep Diorama Winners
The Washington Post hosted a contest for Peeps dioramas and the results are in. Called Peeps Show, the contest inspired more than 800 entries, some riffing on pop culture, others on current and past events. My favorite was the one at right, which might be fall into the category of "suicide food," since the bunnies are toasting marshmallows 'round the campfire here. Other dioramas in the contest include a reenactment of former D.C. mayor Marion Barry's arrest, a scene from Hugh Hefpeep's mansion, and one titled "The Lion Peeps Tonight."

Actually, I think this is an example of cannibalism. Notice that they're avoiding eye contact with each other. Definite manifestation of shame.

Hah. Yeah, you're right, juliec. It's cannibalism. Yes, they do look shameful.

SO glad you put this link up! I was hysterical going through the entries...my two favorites were the Peepator Craig's Wide Stance and the Thrilla in Manila, probably because the second they popped, I knew exactly what they were! Still, a LOT of hard work went in to these!

The Chicago Tribune held a similar contest, and look! A similar, yet way more graphic, depiction of Peeps cannibalism! That one got much messier.
Also, I represented us on Washington Post's Peeps Show-inspired live chat today with writer Dan Zak. Amidst all the anonymous "Washington, D.C." askers in the chat, this one was mine. Continuing the candy cannibalism dialogue, of course. As you'll notice, Dan chose the right response.
Washington, D.C.: I was a big fan of the "Suicide Food" entry where some campfire-side Peeps sit in a circle, roasting marshmallows. Would you consider this acceptable cannibalism?
Dan Zak: I would consider this acceptable cannibalism if Peeps tasted good. They do not, so I am duly repulsed by the diorama.
