Photo of the Day: 'World Famous Beer Battered Onion Rings'

potd-giantonionrings.jpg

When I first saw the above photo taken by Charlie Fu of Clayfood, I thought they were some variety of donuts. They're definitely fried, but far from a sweet bread: those plump ring-shaped monsters are the "World Famous Beer Battered Onion Rings" from Stone Brewery in Escondido, CA. At least, I think there's some onion in there. Charlie said, "These were really thin onions that were so oily I felt the pimples growing on my face as I cut into it. I don't think the four of us had more than 1 each." Thumbs down for the onion ring of doom. [via TasteSpotting]

This looks like fair food to me. you know the naughty stuff you eat once a year at the fair and the health benifit is zero but it still tastes good.

Deep fried regret.

Probably the worst example of using the term "world famous".

wow. that looks wild. I wonder how many rings of onions are inside of it or if it's chopped.

That looks more like an onion flavored donut.

its just one ring of onion and 8 inches of batter.

there is a restaurant in my area that serves rings of similar size but they have a substantial amount of onion in them and they are fabulous. if you're planning a trip to northern indiana soon (ok, you can stop laughing now) look up Between the Buns.
