Guess being part of history isn't so great after all...
Now if they could just do something with those horrid grey mouse overs on the main page, food + grey highlighting is not a winning combo!

Robert Irvine also has a "blog" on Amazon (if two posts count as a blog) that still tells the same story, like being "a special culinary envoy to the White House".

I just now blogged about how I'm torn about this whole mess. His skills still appear rather substantial, and he apparently can hold together during "rush hour". Methinks it's best to withhold judgement till we find out where the heck those skills actually came from. To me, he's still one of the more watchable real cooks on FN today.

I think this is a result of the whole "celebrity chef" obsession we have now. It's not enough to be a great chef, you have to have a brand and a history and a crazy personality to go with that talent, or you won't make it.
That said I think he should go down for this. Lying on your resume isn't tolerated in any field.

I have to admit that I never heard of this man until a few days ago (the 'pants on fire' post) but... well, isn't anyone else feeling so embarrassed for him that you just want to avert your eyes from every mention of him? A well rounded set of accounts of this story still seems to be missing. And I don't know that his credibility as a chef (and there have been mentions of his being an accomplished chef, regardless of what else he may be) should be irretrievably tarnished. Look at Martha Stewart, after all...

In the Dinner Impossible episodes that recorded last night, I noticed that they changed the opening of each episode to remove all his "titles" and the clips of the White house, Buckingham Palace, etc. and now it just shows clips from previous shows with a voiceover saying that he had completed some of the toughest culinary challenges in the world.

I'm with you mongoose. I sort of feel bad for the guy. It's not as if he has no food background or that he hasn't proven himself in the field, so to speak. I've never been a huge fan of his, but I've watched several episodes of his show. Probably still will.
I read that bit about seeking restaurant financing--it's very common for people to seek financing--rarely does one talented individual have the capital to fund a high end restaurant, let alone two.
I'm not ready to condemn him.

His next gig will be "48 hours Mystery", on CBS...the great con of the american food world...the pimping of celebrity chefs is bound to attract the nuts who actually succeed in their efforts to be the next big thing!!
