Photo of the Day: Martha's Prop Room

20080225-potd.jpg

Think you have trouble finding storage space for all your dishes, silverware, pots, pans, and serving platters? Above is just one of many, many shelves in Martha Stewart's prop room at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia headquarters. These kitchen items (and many other household wares) are used in photo shoots for all the various Martha-brand magazines, TV shows, and the like. Remember that final scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark? Very interesting, Adam. Never really gave it much thought about how much "stuff" it takes to produce her TV show & magazines, etc. Wonder if she ever has a "yard" or "garage" sale...I'd be there instantly!

JEP: I actually used to work there, and the photos almost don't do that room justice. It's insanely huge and crammed full of all sorts of cool stuff. There's also a wood shop in the building that fabricates sets to shoot in. It's really amazing.

I was there a few months ago and almost fainted with delight when I saw the 300-plus cake stands and 200 cutting boards. They had to drag me out, kicking and screaming. Curiously, I haven't been invited back since...
