Dolphin: Friend or Food?

Residents of Taiji, Japan have been eating dolphin for over a century, but social pressures and high levels of mercury challenge their culture of dolphin-eating.

Weird. I eat a lot of things, but dolphin will never be one of them. I don't eat anything smarter than me...

I'll try anything at least once. Maybe I would draw the line at live cockroaches, at least the 3"+ flying ones in Hawaii.
Dolphins, like any other animal, is another depletable resource. These people make a living out of it, so there's a demand somewhere; otherwise, they wouldn't be out there risking their lives. I wonder if there's a way to farm-raise these like salmon, cows, etc. to relieve the wild population...?
