Really Intense Pie Pairings

20070123_PiePairings.jpgEver wonder what complements the sourness of rhubarb pie? Or the tartness of apple pie? After consulting the gastro-scientific website of joy FoodPairing, we’ve done some research and got the answers. Disclaimer: Some of these are awfully strange, and potentially inedible...

If you’re having Rhubarb Pie, try: black tea, coffee, a broad range of fish (ew), apple juice or celery leaves.

More bizarre pairings after the jump.

If you’re having Apple Pie, try: Camembert cheese, coriander seed, lemon balm, raw beetroots or cauliflower.

If you’re having Blueberry Pie, try: oysters (say wha!), basil, peppermint, vanilla bourbon or endives.

If you’re having Raspberry Pie, try: Gruyere, lamb (not joking), honey (now that’s more like it), feta or peas.

If you’re having Banana Cream Pie, try: grapefruit peel, artichoke, tomatoes, parsley or mussels.

If you’re having Strawberry Pie, try: sauerkraut (eek), licorice, Parmesan, chocolate or soybeans.

If we have not mentioned your pie, we apologize. (If we have offended you, we also apologize). Feel free to e-mail the FoodPairing masterminds at recipe@foodpairing.be for other pairing suggestions.

helpful to add that these pairings are based on the pie contents, that is your apple pie pairings are pairings for apples in general. sort of useful, but not really.
