Photo of the Day: Chocolate Cake Balls

potd-cakesicles.jpg

Bakerella made these beautiful chocolate cake balls, or "cakesicles," by mixing together crumbled chocolate cake and frosting, rolling the mixture into little balls, popping them onto sticks, and dipping them in melted candy. Why are foods more fun when you eat them off a stick?

Because you can usually shove the whole thing in your mouth at once?

Okay, now I totally want a cake pop.

Hilarious - I make the same sort of thing by saving up all my cake "scraps" (such as what I cut off a cake when I'm leveling it) and later mixing them with frosting, liquer, extra butter (whatever seems good at the time). I usually either make a mock truffle out of them or form them into "mice", like so: http://www.flickr.com/photos/devrah/1872475219/in/set-72057594093849958/ or even make a larger ganache coated confection: http://www.flickr.com/photos/devrah/187744994/in/set-72057594093849958/

peachfish, those mice are too cute... but I must say, the white ones could also pass as polar bears!

Think I'll try out penguins...

Heh, thanks. The Confection coating I was using was a bit too thick, so they came out a bit chuunky looking. hmmm...polar bears...I might have to try it!

oh, they almost look like dango!
